The Best of the Week in Panels – 12.05.2012

The horse is one of only three appropriate subjects for a panel, along with ships with sails and men holding up swords while staring off into the distance.

Avengers #1

By Jonathan Hickman, Jerome Opena, Dean White, & Cory Petit

There’s so much great art in this issue but this panel really reached out and grabbed me, so to speak.

Smallville: Season 11 #8

By Bryan Q. Miller, Axel Gimenez, Diana Egea, Wendy Broome, & Saida Temofonte

I always want to have Bryan Q. Miller comics in my life.

Punisher: War Zone #2

By Greg Rucka, Carmine Di Giandomenico, Matt Hollingsworth, & Joe Caramagna

Well, maybe you’d have more friends, Frank, if you groomed a little bit. Maybe showered every now and then.

Earth 2 #7

By James Robinson, Yildiray Cinar, Trevor Scott, Alex Sinclair or Dave McCaig or Allen Passalaqua or Lee Loughridge, & Dezi Sienty

If Nicola Scott needs a fill-in every once in a while, then I’m more than happy for Yildiray Cinar to step in. He’s fantastic.

Deadpool #3

By Brian Posehn, Gerry Duggan, Tony Moore, Val Staples, & Joe Sabino

I couldn’t love this storyline any more if I tried.

Action Comics #15

By Grant Morrison, Brad Walker or Rags Morales, Andrew Hennessy or Mark Propst, Brad Anderson, & Steve Wands

For all of the erratic nature of this series, Morrison still really understands the core of Superman.

Hawkeye #5

By Matt Fraction, Javier Pulido, Matt Hollingsworth, & Chris Eliopoulos

It’s so simple, but I love the defiant and pissed off body language that Clint is sporting.

Swamp Thing #15

By Scott Snyder, Marco Rudy, Val Staples or Lee Loughridge, & Travis Lanham

I don’t think that Bruce had a plan for that one. Or if he did, it wasn’t a good one. It looks like he mated with Squid Head from Star Wars.

All-New X-Men #3

By Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Marte Gracia, & Cory Petit

Kick his ass, Scott! No– no, the other Scott!

Fury MAX #7

By Garth Ennis, Goran Parlov, & Lee Loughridge

I don’t even have anything pithy or even sincere about this one. I’m just terrified.

Comments

  1. Go the Opena great Thor, love the hammer!

  2. Was it me or was All New X-Men extra JJ Abraham’s lens flare-y?

  3. No Amazing Spider-man 699? The Aunt May panel deserves to be on this list!

  4. I loved the Deadpool panel of the Zombie Gerald Ford’s demise.

  5. The hammer spinning is something you see all the time in Thor/Avenger books, but somehow Opena and White really make it come to life in that panel. It looks real!

The last page of All New X was really something.

  6. fury max came out this week? time for me to pick that one up.

  7. I think Opena was trying to invoke a little bit of Kirby in that shot of Thor. Look at those finger nails!

  8. I loved the panel in deadpool with zombie George Washington saying muh teef.

  9. Just caught 30 Rock on Hulu and caught the opening reference. Jack Donagy FTW.

  10. Really digging All New X-Men. (Present) Scott coming to terms with becoming a Neo-Magneto/old school Wolverine/not so nice man is fantastic. I still don’t know how I feel about the young X-Men being in the present, but I’m cool with it as long as it’s not a long term thing.

  11. This Wednesday at the Megadome, it’s CYCLOPS VERSUS CYCLOPS! Be there to see all this intense SCOTT VERSES SCOTT ACTION as PAST CYCLOPS takes on PRESENT CYCLOPS with the future of the mutant race in the balance! Tickets are just $3.99! You’ll get a seat, BUT YOU’LL ONLY NEED THE EDGE!!!

  12. I loved that panel you showed from Deadpool (one of the few that I did like in that issue) because as a man who’s read a book on both Adams it is dead on.

Surprised there was no Hellboy in Hell panels/pages in here. It’s probably too long of a sequence but that whole ‘Christmas Carol’ puppet show was just brilliant.

  13. I hoped that Punisher panel would make it. What an excellent book.

  14. NAM NAM NAM

  15. The only one of these I’m reading is the Punisher. Deadpool looks cool I think I need to jump onboard.

  16. The return of Mr. Terrific panel made me happy. I have missed him.
