The Best of the Week in Panels – 11.28.2012

Never go with a hippie to a second panel.

Secret Avengers #34

By Rick Remender, Matteo Scalera, Matthew Wilson, & Clayton Cowles

This one’s for Ron.

Batman Beyond Unlimited #10

By Derek Fridolfs, Dustin Nguyen, Randy Mayor, & Saida Temofonte

The saddest moment of the week for me. The watch beeping only accentuated the saddness.

Uncanny Avengers #2

By Rick Remender, John Cassaday, Laura Martin, & Chris Eliopoulos

Uh, creepy.

Arrow #1

By Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, Mike Grell, David Lopez, Santi Casas, & Wes Abbott

Great to have you back with Oliver Queen, Mr. Grell.

Chew #30

By John Layman, Rob Guillory, & Taylor Wells

I chose this panel because she deserves her moment of happiness.

Superman Family Adventures #7

By Art Baltazar & Franco

Those Ponies cannot be trusted! I knew it!

The New Avengers #34

By Brian Michael Bendis, Mike Deodato, Rain Beredo, Joe Caramagna, & Others

Okay fine, Bendis! You got me.

Talon #2

By Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Juan Jose Ryp, Vincente Cifuentes, Tomeu Morey & Dezi Sienty

Juan Jose Ryp leaves it all on the page. This is a mesmerizing two-page spread.

Thor: God of Thunder #2

By Jason Aaron, Esad Ribic, Ive Svorcina, & Joe Sabino

I wish that “Saxon” was a word still commonly used in every day discourse because it’s awesome to say out loud.

All-Star Western #14

By Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray, Moritat, Mike Atiyeh, & Rob Leigh

The way that the heavy lines and blacks create a visceral mood is fantastic.

MacGyver: Fugitive Gauntlet #2

By Lee David Zlotoff, Tony Lee, Will Sliney, Ciaran Lucas, & Aditya Bidikar

MacGyver, I love you.

Batman, Incorporated #5

By Grant Morrison, Chris Burnham, Nathan Fairbairn, & Dave Sharpe

There’s so much going on in this panel and it’s all fantastic. Chris Burnham is a beast.

FF #1

By Matt Fraction, Michael Allred, Laura Allred, & Clayton Cowles

I really love Reed’s chin getting longer and longer as he strokes it (hey now!) while deep in thought. It’s a great touch.

Before Watchmen: Silk Spectre #4

By Darwyn Cooke, Amanda Conner, Paul Mounts, & Carlos M. Mangual

Finally a good reason for female superheroes to wear high heels.

All-New X-Men #2

By Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Marte Gracia, & Cory Petit

This made me laugh for like two straight minutes. I can’t fully explain why, but it did. I kept looking at the panels with Immonen’s fantastic expressions and hearing the screams in my head and I’d lose it.

Comments

  1. Ryp & Burnham, nuff’ said!

  2. Says the guy with the red skull head…

  3. So many great panels.

I love, love, love the Monster Avengers.

  4. conor – did the screaming sound like 0:17 in this?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDyHftGcDKg

  5. I’ve been trying to cut back on my comics and skipped Talon despite Snyder’s name on the book. Having seen that art, I think I may be getting some back issues. Wow!

  6. Seeing that Toni panel got me…

  7. I too hate The Smiths…….and Captain Britain as well for that mater. 🙂

  8. The Icemen panel got me too. Just too funny.

  9. Did they kill Old Man Wayne?!

That New Avengers panel is gorgeous.

Every panel of Batman Inc. could’ve been here this week (especially the full page showing everyone getting blown up). Burnham brought the thunder this issue!

  10. Love the art in All-New X-Men. I haven’t been reading Secret Avengers but that panel made me smile 8)

  11. Chew had the saddest moment of the week for me.

    I was not prepared…

  12. I’ve never once bought a Thor comic, but I have a feeling I’m buying 2 tomorrow.

  13. I KNW that All-New X-Men moment would make it in this! Loved that.

  14. That is a gorgeous double page spread by Ryp. Shame he isn’t doing more of Talon for the foreseeable future.

There’s also a great double page spread in All-Star Western where Barbary Ghost is introduced.

  15. Good Lord! I feel like we’re at a moment in comics history that will be remembered for a wealth of incredible, mind-blowing art!

  16. I love in the All New X-Men panels that the back ground trees almost look like trees drawn by Bill Waterson back in the heigh day of Calvin and Hobbes…

  17. There were so many panels in FF#1 that could have been featured in this week’s installment. I love the way Allred draws Reed. He is just stretching all over, but not in an in your face, look how clever I am kind of way, it comes off as completely natural, the way your body language would look if your body was super stretchy like that. So well done.
