I’ve often speculated why you don’t return to America. Did you abscond with the church panels? Run off with a senator’s wife? I like to think you killed a man. It’s the romantic in me.
Fury MAX #13
By Garth Ennis, Goran Parlov, & Lee Loughridge
This final issue was full of great moment but a simple handshake between two former enemies standing among the monuments to the horror they inflicted upon one another’s people at the behest of dishonest politicians was my favorite.
Justice League #21
By Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Brad Anderson, & Nick J. Napolitano
A great moment in a great final chapter.
All-New X-Men #13
By Brian Michael Bendis, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Rain Beredo, & Cory Petit
Everything About the Chaos in this Panel is Wonderful, Part 1
The Flash #21
By Francis Manapul, Brian Buccellato, & Carlos M. Mangual
This was the first title page for The Flash in a long while that has made me stop and go “OoooOOOoooh!”
Daredevil #27
By Mark Waid, Chris Samnee, Javier Rodriguez, & Joe Caramagna
Everything About the Chaos in this Panel is Wonderful, Part 2
Lazarus #1
By Greg Rucka, Michael Lark, & Santi Arcas
Yeah she did.
Nova #5
By Jeph Leob, Ed McGuinness, Dexter Vines, Edgar Delgado, & Albert Deschesne
If you missed this delightfully fun cosmic romp do yourself a favor and keep an eye out for the first trade.
All-Star Western #21
By Justin Gray, Jimmy Palmiotti, Moritat, Mike Atiyeh, & Rob Leigh
Modern criminals apparently aren’t prepared for Jonah’s frontier justice.
Uncanny X-Men #7
By Brian Michael Bendis, Frazer Irving, & Joe Caramagna
As long as Frazer Irving keeps wanting to draw these fantastic hellscape vistas I’m happy.
Adventures of Superman #2
By Joshua Hale Failkov, Joelle Jones, Nick Filardi, & Wes Abbott
Superman’s resigned trip to the future that was quick for us but obviously long for him was a great bit.
Hawkeye #11
By Matt Fraction, David Aja, Matt Hollingsworth, & Chris Eliopoulos
Yes, I know is technically the title page but it’s part of the story and it’s fantastic. From the design to the typeography to the stark coloring, there’s nothing that I don’t love about it.
Sex #4
By Joe Casey, Piotr Kowalski, Brad Simpson, Rus Wooton, & Sonia Harris
I love that Simon Cooke’s disguise makes him look like a Cuban revolutionary.
Captain America #8
By Rick Remender, John Romita Jr., Klaus Janson, Scott Hanna, & Dean White
“SHWUNKK” is awesome to say out loud. Give it a try.
Batman / Superman #1
By Greg Pak, Jae Lee, June Chung, & Rob Leigh
Yes.
Oh man, this week was an embarrassment of riches. So many different styles to appreciate.
The choice by Irving to have Cyclops’ eye beam come out in the X-shape of his new mask is brilliant.
And that ASW panel made me laugh out loud, as did the caption. Balls nasty.
There was another moment in Captain America that was the Panel of the Week for me.
If you read the issue I think you know which one I am talking about.
Loved it and hated it at the same time.
My jaw dropped when I saw that panel!
Also I couldn’t agree more about the Flash spread. I must’ve stared at that for 5 straight minutes…awesome.
Slice ‘n dice! When are we going to be able to get our hands on those iconic Mutant Gang visors that are so popular?
I hear the initiation process is pretty rough. They don’t shiv, spud.
Balls nasty.
Love the nod to Saul Bass by David Aja and Jae Lee’s work is incredible. Of course, I can never get enough of Joelle Jones!
Nice selections Conor!
yes, saul bass nod by aja there !
No Pepperoni? Really?
Right?!!!
The entire Hawkeye book was full of great moments and my favorite among the many, is when Clint tells Lucky he’s a good boy and Lucky smiles… that and the Salute 🙂
My dog has the same goofy smile whenever you tell him he’s a, “good boy”: http://sdrv.ms/14B1FfM
Sure it isn’t the best of moments in most people’s opinion, but that smile gets me. Aja is spectacular at even the small stuff. That part of the story telling really does it for me. If you’ve read it, you’ll know that the “C’mon Lucky” meant to me.
There’s so many good stuff from the comics I read.
Almost anything by Jae Lee could have been in this (aside from what’s here) in Batman/Superman. Wolverine trying to score with a SHIELD agent in a middle of a crisis in Wolverine.
Or here’s a shocker: NOTHING from The Wake is in here. How do we not have that two page spread of the shark being attacked by the mer-apes? Or the moon exploding? That stuff was ‘holy shit balls’ (patent pending) gorgeous.
