The Best of the Week in Panels – 05.25.2011

I lost my panels; didn't take me no time.

Secret Avengers #13

By Nick Spencer, Scot Eaton, Jamie Mendoza, Rick Ketcham, Frank D'Armata, & Dave Lanphear

I can now check "Witness The Statue of Abraham Lincoln Come To Life and Pummel Nazi Robots" off my comic book bucket list.

– Conor Kilpatrick

American Vampire #15

By Scott Snyder, Rafael Albuquerque, Dave McCaig, & Pat Brousseau

I don't know a lot, but I do know when you're tunneling though secret passages in the South Pacific during World War II, the last thing you want is to open a hatch and find a bunch of Imperial Army. This much, I know.

– Josh Flanagan

Captain America #618

By Ed Brubaker, Butch Guice, Stefano Gaudiano, Bettie Breitweiser, & Joe Caramagna

The more Steranko influenced this book is, the better it is.

– Conor Kilpatrick

Ruse #3

By Mark Waid, Minck Oosterveer, Antonio Fabela, & Rob Steen

After only three issues Simon Archard and his assistant partner Emma Bishop already have one of the best relationships in comics.

– Conor Kilpatrick

Detective Comics #877

By Scott Snyder, Jock, David Baron, & Sal Cipriano

This is why I love Jock's work so much. Batman is basically a cannonball at this point, and a flaming one at that. No artists have been able to nail the graphic beauty of that cape the way Jock does in a long while. This is just great Batman.

– Josh Flanagan

Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #6

By Jason Aaron, Adam Kubert, Mark Roslan, Justin Ponsor, & Rob Steen

This rollicking good time mini-series ended with a series of gut-punches. This being the most gut-punchiest of all.

Did Spider-man go to Italy??  I don’t see a lot of Esso stations in America.  That Captain America panel is pulp mainstream comics.

  2. WHATTHEDAST WHATTHEDAST says:

What about Secret Warriors? You know which panel I’m talking about.

  3. RoiVampire RoiVampire says:

i just have to know how that statue of lincoln came to life

  4. WeaklyRoll WeaklyRoll says:

I was hoping one of Kubert’s panels from astonishing would make it it, and I’m glad it was this.

  5. matthaber matthaber says:

My favorite panel of the week was the scene with attacking Guy and Hal in green latern and it goes all “x-ray” on them. the coloring on that page is ridiculus

  6. stuclach stuclach says:

There were a number of exceptional panels in Detective Comics this week, but that may be the best.

  7. 360Logic 360Logic says:

Pouty face Doom in FF #4 was easily the funniest panel I read this week.

  8. The best moment in Detective is that two page spread of Grayson’s face as he’s talking to Sonia.

I did like the long sequence in Xombi #3 where we see the extent of Kim’s healing abilities and Rozum’s take on death. Really going all Grant Morrison on us there.

  9. GKFinns GKFinns says:

@WHATTHEDAST  Yes, Yes I do. I fully expected to see that panel here.

  10. Toadmeister Toadmeister says:

    @WHATTHEDAST

Booya- Secret Warriors “head shot” should have made t this week

  11. benathan says:

Secret Warriors was my best panel of the week, easy….not to mention the entire page before that panel was pretty phenomenal as well.

  12. nick0606 nick0606 says:

I did like the Lincoln Page, but I think the Washington ordering all of the troops page was a better moment.

  13. Neb Neb says:

Detective comics was pretty incredile this week.  Jock crushed that issue.

  14. RobotZombie RobotZombie says:

    @360Logic Agreed

  15. Stepho Stepho says:

I didn’t read Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine #6 but that panel gave me chills
