The Best of the Week in Panels – 05.09.2012

Henry, you’re a good kid, I’ve been good to you, you’ve been good to me. But there’s something really unreasonable going on here. Jimmy’s being an unconscionable ball-breaker. I never agreed to 3 panels on top of the vig! Am I something special? Some sort of schmuck on wheels?

Wolverine and the X-Men #10

By Jason Aaron, Chris Bachalo, Tim Townsend or Jaime Mendoza or Al Vey or Victor Olazaba, & Chris Eliopulos

While you’re in there can I get a tennis bracelet?

— Conor Kilpatrick

Batman #9

By Scott Snyder, James Tynion IV, Rafael Albuquerque, Dave McCaig, & Patrick Brosseau

What you may not know is that this is exactly how Paul Montgomery writes his pieces for iFanboy. He only writes during ominous thunderstorms and then sends them in via a one eyed crow. And then we have to edit out the “From the desk of Jarvis Pennyworth” at the top of every piece.

— Conor Kilpatrick

The Walking Dead #97

By Robert Kirkman, Charlie Adlard, & Cliff Rathburn

Comics are often predicated on the badass moment, and it can get tiring, this endless line of badass, badassing over and over again, trying to out-badass the other badasses. That being said, this scene? Rick is pretty badass.

— Josh Flanagan

Avenging Spider-Man #9

By Kathryn Immonen, Stuart Immonen, Wade Von Grawbadger, Matt Hollingsworth, & Joe Caramagna

As a non sequitur, this might be the greatest panel in comics history.

— Conor Kilpatrick

Demon Knights #9

By Paul Cornell, DiĆ³genes Neves, Robson Rocha, & Oclair Albert

Paul Cornell tackles gay marriage in Demon Knights. I’ll tell you, I didn’t see that coming, but march on.

— Josh Flanagan

Uncanny X-Force #25

By Rick Remender, Mike McKone, Dean White, Cory Petit, & Jared K. Fletcher

Does Rick Remender write a pretty mean Robert Evans? You bet your ass he does.

— Conor Kilpatrick

Comments

  1. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

True. Whenever there’s breaking news on a clear day I have to tug on a velvet cord to rouse my man up in the weather control dirigible. “Clement? I require inclemency!”

  2. Anyone else notice the Kid Apocolypse that keeps showing up in the background of Marvel comics? There was one in the last issue of Wolverine and I think there was another in A v X, then the obvious one in Uncanny X-force.

    • He was a part of the Dark Angel Saga in uncanny x-force. He’s moved over to WATX and is a student at the school…

  3. That issue of Walking Dead was so cathartic and joyful to read, because after years of reading about the Rick and friends struggling and meeting horrible tragedy after horrible tragedy, It is refreshing to see them now as the biggest badasses on the block.
at the same time, it makes me all the more scared for issue 100 when Rick will likey die.

  4. I really expected the panel in Batman where Bruce shows off his “guard dog”. I actually laughed out loud at that one.

Still, great picks. Wolverine and the X-Men makes me glad that the Kitty/Emma feud is still going strong.

  5. Avenging Spider-man had some wonderful moments. It was a great issue, exactly what spider-man should be.

  6. That panel from WATXM is pretty much the only part of that book I enjoyed. What a great back and forth that was.

  7. I like the ” Tim Townsend or Jaime Mendoza or Al Vey or Victor Olazaba” part. This is the second time the third issue in Bachalo’s rotation needed a small army of inkers just to get it out the door. The double-shipping on this book means they have this back-up squad of inkers at the ready, lol.

  8. Spider-Minotaur? 0_o

  9. Deadpool has no right being that entertaining. And Paul said “inclemency”. Great week.

  10. I know it’s suppose to be Robert Evans but why do I have Alan Alda’s voice in my head during the Deadpool rant?

Also, the flying head is a nice touch…

  11. Nothing from Frankenstein: Alive, Alive!? Poor show…

  12. So many great panels this week. It was a good week in comics.

    Love the Avenging Spider-man… Classic.

  13. Jarvis Pennyworth, He has to be the ultimate Super Hero Butler, Is this the lost Amalgam character, are they bringing that back? Snyder rocking a Nolan right now, long may it last.

  14. Last panel in Batman and Robin made me laugh out loud.

  15. Fantastic week in panels. Must have been hard to choose. I genuinely thought one of the double page panels from Grifter would have made it. Good stuff.
