The Best of the Week in Panels – 02.15.2012

But it’s so simple. All I have to do is divine from what I know of you: are you the sort of man who would put the panels into his own goblet or his enemy’s? Now, a clever man would put the panels into his own goblet, because he would know that only a great fool would reach for what he was given. I am not a great fool, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of you. But you must have known I was not a great fool, you would have counted on it, so I can clearly not choose the wine in front of me.

Wolverine #301

By Jason Aaron, Steve Sanders, & Sotocolor

Why yes, that is Wolverine’s skin regrowing over his exposed muscles as he’s engaged in a brutal fight.

Peter Panzerfaust #1

By Kurtis Wiebe, Tyler Jenkins, Alex Sollazzo, & Ed Brisson

This character introduction shot is wonderful in every way.

Supergirl #6

By Michael Green, Mike Johnson, Mahmud Asrar, Dave McCaig, & Rob Leigh

I love these “punch someone who ends up really far away” panels.

Daredevil #9

By Mark Waid, Paolo Rivera, Joe Rivera, Javier Rodriguez, & Joe Caramagna

There is so much going on here at so many planes of depth. It’s fantastic.

Glory #23

By Joe Keatinge, Ross Campbell, Ms. Shatia Hamilton, & Douglas E. Sherwood

Punching a tank is awesome, but I love the guy hanging on to the cannon for dear life.

Batman #6

By Scott Snyder, Greg Capullo, Jonathan Glapion, FCO, & Richard Starkings

Drugs are bad, kids.

Comments

  1. Daredevil #9 definitely had the most ‘fucked up’ panel of the week. With Mole Man dancing with a corpse….That’s just wrong Mark Waid.

Also, that panel from Wolverine is mighty ugly……good idea but horribly off model. (Yes I know he’s missing his skin but the point is that if you took the claws away that doesn’t look like Logan, more like Colossus)

  2. i showed that DD spread to my girlfriend saying “yeah so this is under New york, and not even that deep down.”

  3. I love that page from Panzerfaust, but personally i would have gone with the “flying” splash page 😉

  4. INCONCEIVABLE!!

  5. Love that Glory panel, plus when she cracks that guys back and tosses him like a ragdoll..Brutal fun

  6. Panzerfaust had some iconic images like the one you posted. Loved that page.

  7. Great picks. When I got to the page from Batman, I was compelled to read it out loud. “ENOUGH!”. The cave from Daredevil had me lingering on the page for awhile, the coloring really pops and the depth, as Connor noted, is rendered extremely well.

  8. DD was chock full o’ fine panels this week. Great selection though.

The Batman panel was a moment for me. This whole arc has been like a (good) bad trip. That moment perfectly captures the exhausting pace at which we’ve all been barrelling ahead with Bruce. Great stuff.

  9. The image of Panzerfaust’s entrance made me want to go to the future and buy every issue of the series. Outstanding.

  10. You could have done a whole article on panels from this week’s Daredevil.

  11. Truly you have a dizzying intellect.

  12. Even without the skin Wolverine looks like he could drop a few pounds.

  13. Right after seeing that two page spread in Daredevil, it was like, “Why are you not reading this regularly?”

  14. Wow, DD looks like something really special. Ive never read a DD comic before, but I love him in New Avengers.

    • I’m not kidding, T.G., New Avengers doesn’t scratch the surface of how cool daredevil can be, you should try and get this volume from #1, I’m sure you’d be hooked!

  15. Thanks Alexferrer, and your right I’m sure I will. Thing is, (and I know this sound kinda dumb.) I try to limit how many comics I read at a time. I’m currently reading 7. Not even counting graphic novels.
But I’ll definitely give this one a shot.

  16. Methinks you had an embarassment of riches to choose from this week, @Conor – great job! And to all you people not yet reading Daredevil…*shame* 😉

  17. I didn’t think the art from Rivera and Rivera on “Daredevil” could get better…but boy howdy it did.

  18. That Daredevil panel was certainly the standout of the week in my own opinion….so amazing!

  19. that’s some great dialogue from the princess bride, conner. funny.

  20. That Batman panal is fantastic and took my breath away when I turned the page! Capullo is really bringing his A game with this book! Snydr and Capullo are making Batman cool and compeeling to read again.
