The Best of the Week in Covers – 08.01.2012

Covers, covers everywhere, but not a drop to drink.

Justice League International #12

By David Finch

A morbid way for a series to go out, but Finch manages to make even O.M.A.C. look somewhat dignified. You know, sort of. A little bit. The way the sunlight hits that dorsal fin.

Mind MGMT #3

By Matt Kindt

The hair composed of fire-breathing dragons is one thing. But that nose-child is bleeding into the philtrum and lips of this haunting portrait. Morose? Elegant? Creepy? Beautiful? Same difference.

Avengers Academy #34

By Giuseppe Camuncoli

Hazmat’s going a little Dragon Ball Z in this spotlight, but finals can be stressful like that. I love the ferocity. I love the abandon. It’s totally striking.

Mind the Gap #3

By Rodin Esquejo

Breakfast Club homages are a dime a dozen, but the creepy factor elevates this one. I mean, they Weekend-at-Bernie’s’d one of the participants into this tableau! And there’s a ghost in there! That requires a very special camera. A ghost camera. Hey, smoke up, Johnny!

Comments

  1. Hazmat’s levels are over 9000!

    • Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

It was all that time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.

    • That’s got to be the first Hyperbolic Time Chamber reference on iFanboy.

And I love it. Mr. Popo would be proud.

I shouldn’t share this, but many, many, many lifetimes ago, I went by “SuperSaiyanMrPopo” on a DBZ message board.

    • We all have had our dark days… like when Vegeta was working for Frieza before he became good.

    • Vegeta was only working for Frieza because he killed his father and planet in front of him when he was a kid. He only wanted the dragonballs so he could wish for immortality so he could kill Frieza……….and then take his place. Love Dragonball Z

  2. That Mind MGMT cover is definitely one of the best of this week. I think some other great ones this week were from regulars like Samnee’s Daredevil cover, Aja’s Hawkeye cover, and Kaare Andrews on Deadpool Kills the MarvelUniverse.

My favorite cover though, probably was Jorge Molina’s cover on X-Men. He has been doing some very well done covers since Wood took over the book.

  3. It’s pretty cool that Batman’s still cloaked in the darkness despite being in broad daylight.

  4. For some reason that Mind MGMT cover creeps me out every time I look at it.

  5. That Mind the Gap cover is really stunning. Has to be my favorite this week.

  6. So, I stopped reading JLI after the first arc… and they go and kill the only character I really liked? I dunno… it seems a little vindictive, DC. A little petty.

  7. Max Fury had the best cover I thought

  8. Deadpool Kills the Marvel Universe #1 deserves a mention.

  9. I don’t like ANY of these covers!
Did you see Aja’s Hawkeye cover?!?!?
