The Best of the Week in Covers – 07.03.2013

Give me liberty or give me great comics covers! Or both is good!

Fairest_17_Full

Fairest #17
Cover by Adam Hughes

Flawless composition. Ethereal and ferocious. Even the title logo is great. I also like the curious detail of the slightly enflamed nose. Like she has hay fever in addition to her hair being crocodiles.

X-Men_Legacy_13

X-Men Legacy #13
Cover by Mike Del Mundo

Having explored so many visual metaphors for fractures and crowded minds in the past dozen covers, Del Mundo’s digging a bit deeper lately, finding new and unusual motifs. It’s fascinating to watch and deeply impressive to behold.

Dial H_14_Full

Dial H #14
Cover by Brian Bolland

We’ve all had this dream, but it’s never been so vivid.

Abe Sapien_4

Abe Sapien #4
Cover by Max Fiumara

The theatrical posters for Alien and Jaws meet in sinister harmony.

Comments

  1. Hey, Leech is on that Dial H cover.

  2. One of the things I’m going to miss about Dial H is having a monthly dose of Brian Bolland cover art in my life — just another way the title feels more like Vertigo than mainline DCU . . .

Great selection of covers this week — the X-Man one is particularly nice . . .

  3. YAY!!! Abe Sapien gets a cover of the week!

  4. Man, I just realized, Hughes is doing for the Fairest covers what had been missing since Jean left the Fables cover duties. If this title goes long enough, I’d love to see a covers book for it in much the same fashion.

And great call out on that Abe Sapien cover. I hadn’t seen those motifs, but once pointed out – how iconic, yet fresh.

(While your at it, give me an art book of Del Mundo’s Legacy covers someday please.)

  5. Del Mundo is on fire! You just can’t stop that guy.

Hughes is absolutely killing it on those Fairest covers. Makes ya go “Ah!”

  6. Those covers by Bolland for DIAL H have always been fantastic. They grab your attention immediately because he always takes the most outrageous moments or characters in the issue and draws them flawlessly. Also, makes me feel like it is more of a Vertigo series since I don’t associate him with major DC work as much.

  7. I’ve never had that dream
