The Best of the Week in Covers – 06.06.2012

Covers. They deposit their larvae in your chest and then your sternum goes blam.

Secret #2
By Jonathan Hickman

Gotta hand it to Hickman for…I can’t quite put my finger on just what….

Before Watchmen: Minutemen #1
By Darwyn Cooke

Here’s a nice exercise in composition and color, allowing the iconic logo and cover dress to inform the new image. Even the bar code gets to play.

Hulk #53
By Dale Eaglesham

Maybe it’s the multiple hours grinding on all three Uncharted games earlier this year, but I’m really taken with this lost civilization motif. The choice to go monochromatic red makes it all the more striking.

Fairest #4
By Adam Hughes

Ah, the allure and romance of sheik chic. Some lovely dramatic lighting here. It’s like a lost Caravaggio.

Comments

  1. Holy shit, I just noticed the head and hand placement of Nite Owl against the yellow moon(?) is 10 to midnight.

  2. Dale’s cover blows the rest away!

  3. I wish I’d have seen that Hulk cover on the shelf. Bet it just jump out from everything else around it. And Hickman’s is pretty disconcerting & cool too.

  4. Love the Hulk cover, so good.

  5. I really like that Hulk cover. Wow.

  6. Avatar photo Mickey">Mickey (@GeeksOfChrist) says:

Hughes has a William Bouguereau thing going on there.
    Very nice.

  7. I am the only one who thinks Ali Babba on the cover of Fairest looks ilke a young Chevy Chase?

  8. Secret #2 reminds me of the movie Se7en for some reason.
