The parade of news from Marvel Comics continued today as in the pages of USA Today they announced a 5 issue miniseries focusing on the origin of Thanos. Written by Joe Keatinge (Hell Yeah!, Glory) with art by Richard Elson (Journey Into Mystery), this mini-series will add to the backstory of the cosmic villain made famous by the work of Jim Starlin.
After the success of Marvel’s The Avengers in movie theaters [SPOILER WARNING] many fans were delighted to see Thanos in a cameo at the end of the film, during the mid credits sequence, suggesting that the rumors of future Marvel movies leaping into the cosmic line of comics may come true. Then Thanos appeared in the pages of Avengers Assemble, as Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley brought the villain back to the comics pages. Now with this mini-series, it seems as if Marvel is adding to the library of The Infinity Gauntlet to bring more Thanos stories to print.
Keatinge and Elson will be teaming up to write and draw the 5 issue series which promises to take the reader through Thanos’ upbringing, with events that pre-date even the landmark Fantastic Four #1 in the early days of the Marvel Universe. Keatinge told USA Today:
“It is about how Thanos came to be..I don’t go Forrest Gump on it, but aspects of the Marvel Universe have been born that directly turn Thanos into who he is.”
Thanos: Son of Titan starts this October from Marvel Comics.
