‘Teen Titans Go!’ – S01E01 – “Legendary Sandwich” & “Pie Bros.”

Teen Titans Go_Legendary Sandwich

DC Entertainment and Cartoon Network’s new-old comedic take on the Teen Titans premieres!

Here’s how “Legendary Sandwich” is described:

Wanting to get rid of the other Titans so she can watch her favorite cartoon in peace, Raven sends them to the ends of the universe on a quest for the ingredients to make a legendary magical sandwich with the secret of eternal life.

Here’s how “Pie Bros.” is described:

Cyborg’s birthday is coming up, so Beast Boy takes a job at their favorite pie shop so he can afford an expensive gift. But when he has to work during Cyborg’s party, his job threatens to come between the two pie bros.

I look forward to your thoughts, opinions, gripes, live-blogging, etc.

  1. I’m willing to give this a try, I really enjoyed.. Nah loved the last Teen Titans cartoon so this has at least a passing interest from me. Besides DC Nation needs new blood, can’t spend my Saturday’s just watching GL:TAS and YJ reruns (still don’t care for ANOTHER batman cartoon but oh well). This got a good review on IGN if that counts for anything.

    • Just finished the first episode, I’m sold on the series. Gonna watch the Wednesday encore to catch the brief moments I missed tonight.

  2. Yuck.

  3. This show is such a embarrassment when compared to Young Justice and Green Lantern. I know they are different types of shows but…come on DC..really? And if I was George Perez and Marv Wolfman, I would be pissed!!

  4. More like “Teen titans NO!” Oh God I’m so clever.

  5. Target audience: children. And more obviously so than Ultimate Spider-Man which i think is a good thing. It’s sillier and goofier and reminded me of the Tiny Titans comic in some ways even though the character designs are not necessarily that similar.

  6. I was and am a huge fan of Young Justice and Green Lantern, and I loved the original Teen Titans cartoon. That being said, I went into this thinking, “Okay. It’s not Teen Titans, it’s its own thing. Same voices, different tone.”

    And I really liked it.

Right off the top, they had me at Raven’s dry yet emotional delivery of “Don’t give up, Butterbean…!” In fact, Raven has some of the best lines and jokes in the show so far. From her trying to enjoy the MLPesque show, to her playing duck duck goose and enjoying Robin’s suffering. Cyborg and Beast Boy’s friendship is great, especially the pie song. I know they’re really trying to make Starfire not understand Earth customs, and they need to make sure they don’t do that too often, but it kind of plays here. Her balloon animals and pin the tail on the donkey jokes were pretty funny. Not sure if I like the new Robin (he was always my favorite), but I’m sure I’ll warm up to him as well. And the little DC universe nods were cool too, from the plushies of Batman, Batgirl, Nightwing, and Joker, to the Bat-O’s cereal, the Darkseid stuffed animal, and the birthday cards to Cyborg from Superman and Batman.

I think it’s goofy and fun. It’ll definitely never be like Teen Titans, but that’s fine. That show ended and it was great. I’m excited to see some more of the show.

    • As hard as a tried not to, I ended up loving the Pie episode and the song. The jokes just kept coming, the duck duck goose bit and Beast Boy turning into a dog to clean all the plates had laughing hysterically. I can’t believe that episode was written by Will Friedle.

  7. I didn’t like the first Titans cartoon, and I’m still upset over Young Justice, so this will be a pass.

  8. Is the DC Nation block dead?

  9. You guys need to lighten up. I watched it w/ my four year old and we both laughed our asses off. This show is awesome.

  10. I never saw the original show but I got a kick out of this. I really quite enjoyed “Legendary Sandwich” and I kind of love dour Raven.

    • The original show was pretty great. The first episode I saw sucked and it turned me off to it, with all the cartoonish stuff, but I got into it a couple years later and watched every episode. There were some really cool storylines inspired by stuff from the Wolfman/Perez books. Some of it was dumbed down, but some episodes were pretty smart. It was all over the place. And my nephew loved playing the video game with me.

I didn’t watch this show yet but I definitely will. I love how Cyborg in the Injustice video game says “Booyah!” just like he did in the first cartoon. I’m guessing he will probably say it in this series as well.

    • He said “Booyah!” a bunch of times in this episode.

It will be interesting to see if they get into actual stories like they did in the original. Right now it seems more like a showcase for superhero comedic sketches. We’ll see.

  11. Is it really funny or like Ultimate Spider-Man?

    • Humor is subjective, but I really liked this and hate USM. This is definately not to be taken seriously, I kinda think of it as “Regular Show” mixed with the old “Teen Titans” cartoon. If you liked the Titans shorts that have been on DC Nation you should like this, they’re pretty much just longer with the same kind of humor.

  12. Did you notice that all the background elements looked like they were drawn in the style of Dan Hipp? Turns out he’s the art director. I recognized his art style from its frequent appearances on iFanboy’s Weekly Sketch Up!

  13. I loved the previous Teen Titans show: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teen_Titans_%28TV_series%29 It had some whacky/child like moments but overall it had the cool moments from the comics.

This revamp looks like it it’s made and marketed for 5-year olds? I’m not a fan of how DC Animation and Marvel feels that shows should be “dumbed down” for children.

    • Huh.

‘Dumbed down’ kids Starfire = NO GOOD.
‘Adult’ promiscuous Starfire = NO GOOD.

No one can win, ever, can they?

    • Starfire makes guys feel weird in their underpants. They don’t like this strange new sensation and so she causes a lot of distress.

  14. I really dug this. I enjoyed the first episode more than the second as I thought it had better comedic bits. I loved Raven’s obsession with the Pretty Pretty Princess show and my favorite quick moment was, after falling from the cave, BB turning into a cat so that he could land on his feet!
