TEASER: The CW’s “Arrow” (UPDATE!)

As the mystery around the Fall 2012 TV Season winds down, we’re starting to get glimpses of the upcoming new TV Shows.  One such show that got picked up on The CW is Arrow, based on Green Arrow from DC Comics.  Executive Produced by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, Andrew Kreisberg, David Nutter, and Melissa Kellner Berman. Arrow is the next comic book adaptation to make it to the small screen.

We got a sneak preview of the show via the below teaser from the pilot, which was written by  Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim, from a story by Greg Berlanti & Marc Guggenheim. For comic fans, the names Andrew Kreisberg & Marc Guggenheim should be familiar as both writers have written comics such as Green Arrow and Black Canary and The Amazing Spider-Man.

UPDATE! Now we get a look at a teaser trailer with a very Green Arrow: Year One looking origin:

Comments

  1. Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

His workout routine is quite strange.

  2. If he ever gets attacked by tennis balls, he’ll be ready!

Not too bad looking – I’d give it a try!

  3. I can get behind this. looks better than the current green arrow series at any rate

    • Wouldn’t you think that’s a problem though? If DC is going to put some money into a series and let it loose maybe the book should be good so that people interested in the comic after seeing the show have an amazing read instead of a, “wow, this is the same thing?” moment.

    • The book is actually significantly better right now than it was with J.T. Krul. If Ann Nocenti keeps it getting better, it’s going to be a great run, at least in my opinion.

    • The art is still terrible though yes? Hh looks like possum/human hybrid?

  4. I think I will enjoy this show more than Smallville. I don’t like Green Arrow as much as Superman so I feel like this will help me get to know Ollie better rather than complain about how different Clark was. Plus I have really gotten into the archer characters between The Hunger Games, Avengers and soon to be Brave.

    • There are a lot of Archer based medias around this year! I for one would like to have the Longbow Hunters be reissued in celebration for Arrow. This show does look really promising. He certainly looks the part, strange how the Queen Industries logo looks a lot like the Queens College logo, Hmmmm copyright?

    • The new QC logo or the old QC logo?

    • A new Longbow Hunters TPB has been solicited for August.

  5. I really want to like this. The promo is cool looking. Though it was published many moons ago, I’d still like to see an adaptation of Long Bow Hunters, but the story is hardcore so I don’t think it’ll ever happen.

    • I think Longbow Hunters would make an excellent DC animated feature. It’s self contained and Ollie looks like a badass in it.

    • I hope (hope) this series is a cool as the promo…. I love Green Arrow and cannot wait to see him come to life…

  6. Unless it’s going to be film-noir or a Sin City type deal I am not a fan of voice overs. But, beyond that, this looks pretty awesome. I hope this does Green Arrow (my favorite character) justice and I hope we also get some of the quipping I enjoy from Green Arrow as well as some political discussions about fat cats. And chili. Some damn hot homemade chili.

  7. Is it going to have LOST-style flashbacks to his five years on the island? That’d be cool.

  8. I’d rather have a Green Lantern series. I wonder if they’ll be guest star heroes like in Samllvile. Maybe a Ollie/Hal team up.Also will Speedy be in this?

    • There is a Green Lantern series currently on television.

    • I think he meant live action.

and also it would be cool if they tied people into like they did with Smallville.

if it works out I’m sure we’ll see Speedie, and then if that works out I’m sure we’ll see Speedie doing Speed and get at least an episode out of that.

  9. I loved the video and am excited to check this series out. The tennis ball trick was cool for sure.

  10. I’m behind this. Looks much better than I expected.

  11. I will say, how serious this takes itself makes it kind of funny. Like, the look of conviction on his face while shooting at those tennis balls. Where’s the humor?

    • I fear they’re going for a regretably “this is serious-stuff, not kiddie comics” vibe. Which, on the bright side, might mean they’ll be a ton of unintentional comedy.

  12. hmm … sans Justin Harley … hmm …

    • er … Hartley …

    • He’s on another CW show this fall. But you gotta think its weird for him to see someone else doing it. I understand they wanted to start over, but I would have loved to see it spinoff from Smallville. Or even if it was not a spinoff, i’d still like to see him in the role again..

  13. So far so good, but apparently they are calling Ollie Arrow and not Green Arrow. For some reason that really bothers me.

    • I think he will be called Green Arrow but the show will be called Arrow. Sorta like Smallvile was called Smallvile and not Superman or whatever. To make it sound cooler.

    • The CW’s description also names him “Arrow” instead of Green Arrow. It bothers me too.

“As Oliver reconnects with those closest to him, he secretly creates the persona of Arrow – a vigilante – to right the wrongs of his family, fight the ills of society, and restore Starling City to its former glory.”

    • Green Lantern the movie was a huge turkey so they probably want to get as far away from that as possible.

  14. The video doesnt seem to work for me

  15. Related Smallville news: Kristin Kreuk (Lana Lang) is back on the CW in “Beauty and the Beast”…

The preview clip with the Beast saving her didn’t make it look very appealing though; not enough Ron Perlman…

  16. CW = not for me

  17. Those are some bad ass pull ups he’s doing!

I’ll give this a shot for sure.

  18. Kriesberg and Guggenheim!? UGH! Why not just toss in JT Krul? That said, the preview is kind of cool. I don’t like super serious Ollie, though. He needs to lighten up.

    • He does seem super-serious! Maybe he’ll lighten up a bit once it gets going…

That was one of the best things about Justin Hartley’s portrayal of Ollie on Smallville. He could play the serious stuff, but he was also funny. I dunno if this new guy has the personality to pull that off yet…

  19. Pulling a badass Footloose vibe here.

Sometimes you just have to go shoot some tennis balls to let off steam about the MAN.

  20. I’ve had the chance to read it and it’s surprisingly good considering the names attached on the writing side. Curious to see how they translated it to the screen (there were a few more f-words than they’ll be able to do on the CW).

  21. Why bother making a Super-Hero show that doesn’t appeal in any way to the fans? Just make something else.

  22. I do like the updated trailer more then just the first scene that was posted earlier. Did they call it Starling City?

  23. I should note, despite the names involved, I will support this show, because I f’ing love Ollie Queen.

  24. This actually looks like it could be pretty good. I’m not a Green Arrow fan at all but I am going to check this out.

  25. Woah, is that Ashton Kutcher standing in for dude in the first scene of the new trailer?!

  26. Paul Blackthorne! That guy made a good Harry Dresden.

  27. I’ll reserve judgement until I actually see it, but was absolutely cringing at the voice-over dialogue: “This is MY city!”

  28. Looks like its a show that could grow on me, who the hell are the 5 ppl standing behind him? You already knew the tennis balls were gonna be stuck to the wall once the scene started so why not spend the extra few bucks and show a cpl of the arrows actually going through em? Already knew the outcome so give us more eye candy, am I wrong?

    • It’s cheaper that way and the reveal is more dramatic than actually seeing them get hit.

The people in the banner, left to right:

Thea Queen, John Diggle, Green Arrow, Tommy Merlyn (I think), Dinah Lance

  29. Logo should be green at the end of the trailer too. I hope they slowly incorporate other real world versions (sci-fi real anyway) characters into the series like they did with Smallville, that show started out as something I watched w my girlfriend, from season 1-4, fell off until 8 or 9 were airing, went back and watched em all on Netflix before season 10 came out and waited til that was over so I could rent it and watch it like a big movie w no commercials, liked it much better that way, what started as a guilty pleasure show became one that made me love Superman and the mythos behind him. I know the show was more about Kal-El becoming Superman than being Superman (trials of Superman) and think thats what made it work as a young origin and bravo to pull that off for 10 seasons, Bryan Q. Miller didn’t hurt.Especially season 8 and 9 with the JSA, and Zod, Darkseid and not a bad tv version of Doomsday, he wasn’t even the main threat. Absolute Justice 2 pt had the comic boy geeked and I even cared about the romance and build up, soap like as it was. Green Arrow followed Andy Diggle and Jocks Year One origin and seems like the new show does as well with the whole stranded, we thought u were dead island thing. Hope it takes off and then they’ll greenlight more dollar signs for effects.

  30. I’ve had the pilot script for a while now. I need to get around to reading it…

    • When you do, be sure to write an analysis of it like you did of the Wonder Woman script. That was one of my all-time favorite things you’ve written.

  31. I actually kinda like this, though I can see it going the way of THE CAPE. But what I like is that it seems closer to the MIke Grell “Longbow Hunters” era GA — by way of Diggle’s Year One story. 😉 It’s hard to tell if he still has his fortune from this trailer. I honestly kinda hope he loses it; I tend to like Oliver Queen better when he’s a very street-level, crusading justice-seeker who uses a bow as his iconic symbol of his will to survive and instinct to hunt.

  32. Let’s just get a hard-traveling heroes show right from the start. Everyone loves a buddy road trip comedy, plus a confused Guardian tagging along. Also, Joe Pesci will play the Guardian.

  33. wow this actually looks better than what i thought

  34. Really excited for this. Hope it doesn’t get canceled before it premiers like Wonderwoman.
