TEASER: Near Death #1 from Image Comics

Earlier this year at the Emerald City Comic Con we spoke to writer Jay Faerber about his upcoming series from Image Comics, Near Death.  Faerber was light on the details at that time, but since then I've heard nothing but good things about this crime drama that Faerber has teamed up with artist Simone Guglielmini on. We all  know Faerber is one of the best at finding new artistic talent (i.e. Mahmud Asrar on Dynamo5, now on Supergirl), and it looks like he's done it again with Guglielmini.

Today, Image Comics release the following teaser images and if you're a crime comics fan, you've gotta be pretty excited for this series which hits comics stores in September.

  1. If that was the afterlife then I’d be scared to go…

People would be kicking my ass for eternity.

  2. So if he has to save a life for every life he took, that would mean he can’t kill in the process of saving someone, or he’s got a negative ROI, right? I’m only half kidding. But this does look interesting!

  3. Art reminds me a lot of Mazzuchelli (sp?) from Year One. I likey!

  4. @kennyg  That’s exactly what I was thinking when I saw the first panel on the last page. I guess it would be pointless if he killed someone to save someone. 😉

  5. Cool concept and the art looks gorgeous. I’m in!

  6. IN.

  7. I’m so proud of this book. Even more so than Dynamo5.

  8. @kennyg  Believe me, we’re well aware of that particular moral gray area.

  9. This book was made for Jay to write. So you know who to blame if it’s great.

  10. With all due respect to DC, I think this is the No. 1 issue I’m most looking forward to in September!

Also, while we’re on the subject of Jay Faerber, I wanted to say that to anyone who likes PI stories, I highly recommend Faerber’s OGN “Dodge’s Bullets.” I just reread it a few weeks ago, and it’s a really great piece of work that didn’t get the attention it deserved in the marketplace.

  11. @Fett02   Maybe if they were really bad people, it would be OK, like in True Lies. Right?

  12. @JayFaerber  Cool, I can’t wait to read it. Sounds like a winner!

  13. These pages have me excited. This looks like it’s going to be really good

  14. Jay Faerber is a class act, I’ve been a big fan of his since Noble Causes (though I skipped Dynamo5, pleasedonthatemejay), I’m all over this series. Though its not actually related to this, I’m reminded that I should reread Dodges Bullets at some point. Its been a while.

  15. I’m always on the lookout for a good crime drama, hopefully this is one of those.

  16. This is laid out like the trailer from some unmade 1970s pulp movie. Very nicely done.

  17. Excited!  Great comic trailer!

  18. @balsalm  We’re actually aiming for mediocre crime drama. I hope you’ll still check us out! 😉

  19. been a fan since noble causes, and dynamo 5 soo yeah im in.

Art looks pretty damn amazing to.

  20. I really miss Dynamo 5.  But this looks fun.  I love the premise of having to save a life for every life he took.  I’ll definitely check this out.

  21. I’m in
