One Moore Movie Update – ECHO Headed for the Big Screen

It’s been several hours since the last big movie announcement during this, the march towards San Diego Comic -Con, so let’s check in with Variety to see if anything came in over n–

Looks like Watchmen and Hellboy producer Lloyd Levin has secured the rights to Terry Moore’s Echo.

From Variety:

“Echo” tells the story of a photographer who is preoccupied with her personal problems until she gets doused by liquid metal from a military experiment gone awry. She discovers she can now harness the power of a nuclear bomb, and soon the military wants its walking weapon.

Sounds about accurate. Sounds like a pretty compelling sci-fi blockbuster too. Variety also seems to be pretty hot and bothered about this being another adaptation from a comic sans capes. Not quite Box Office Poison or Bang Tango, but with this and Fear Agent, the adaptation drill does seem to be mining into indier and indier deposits. Either way, great news for Terry Moore and Terry Moore fans, and another project to keep an eye on.

…And another perfect vehicle for Nathan Fillion and Chris Pine, yeah?

If not Nathan Fillion or Chris Pine, then Megan Fox certainly (if Bruce Campbell isn’t available).

Seriously though, this is very exciting news.  I hope they fill the role with someone who has some actual skill as an actress rather than focusing on the "assets" that will be more overtly displayed.

Great to see more indy love.

  3. zombox zombox says:

    indier and indier? :D

  4. Tiocore Tiocore says:

hey what was the last issue of ECHO to come out? I feel like I missed one.

  5. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Issue #13 came out July 1st.

  6. tundra78 tundra78 says:

This should be a cool flick.

  7. ActualButt ActualButt says:

I nominate Autumn Reeser for the lead. She was surprisingly good in the surprisingly good Lost Boys sequel.

  8. Jeff Reid JeffR (@JeffRReid) says:

Now, I don’t want to come off as a total moron here, but doesn’t that description of ECHO seem a little bit like Captain Atom’s origin?  Or a lot like the old 1990s Superboy villain Silversword?  I’d probably not feel that way if I’d ever read the comic, eh?

  9. ohcaroline ohcaroline says:

@JeffR I think that’s a fair point.  Moore doesn’t try to hide that he’s starting from the most classic of superhero premises — a radiation accident!  It’s where the story goes next, and the people that it’s happening to, that makes it stand out.

  10. stuclach stuclach says:

    @ohcaroline – Well said.

  11. RoiVampire RoiVampire says:

Emma Caulfield would be good in this i think

  12. Jeff Reid JeffR (@JeffRReid) says:

Cool.  Looks like I’ve got one more comic to add to my "need to read" pile.  And another movie to possibly see.

  13. I love it the that film industry is focusing on indy property lately.

But I can say for sure I will not be in line for this. With all due respect, I never liked Moore on a professional level. Stories just don’t intrust me. I’m sure everyone else will love this though.

  14. ohcaroline ohcaroline says:

    Real suggestion: Maggie Gyllenhaal

  15. stuclach stuclach says:

@ohcaroline – She certainly has experience working in "superhero movies", so she could work. I’ve only seen her in supporting roles. How does she fair as a lead?

  16. Crucio Crucio says:

My first instinct is Anne Hathaway, with blonde hair. Not sure why.

  17. @ohcaroline GOOD CALL!

  18. ohcaroline ohcaroline says:

@stuclach  I don’t really know if she’s ‘big’ enough, it would depend on how much of a star they want.  I’m sure she could play the part, though.  And I dig Anne Hathaway, too.

  19. s1lentslayer s1lentslayer says:

    Jessica Biel. *drool*

  20. BenBugenig BenBugenig says:

I think this could be a more likely chance of Nathan Fillion actually getting a supporting role as the cop dude that assists her throught out the story.

As for female actresses, it can’t be someone too hot or it’ll be a distraction from the story. Which is why Maggie Ghyllenhaal sounds right, but I think there’s somebody better out there.

In a perfect world, I would have Amy Acker, and then get Whedon to write and direct it, but that’s probably not gonna happen.

On second thought, Dushku has a good chance of snagging that role if Dollhouse gets more attention this season.

    Hurm…

  21. rayclark rayclark says:

    Chris Pine!!

  22. Anville Anville says:

I hope the movie has better pacing than the book. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  23. edward edward says:

with the right make-up nathan fillion would be prefect as Echo

  24. odino1 odino1 says:

Exciting news, even though I’m still waiting for a Scalped HBO show…

  25. vadamowens vadamowens says:

    hellzyeah!!!!

  26. edward edward says:

you know who would be awesome as Dash from Scalped? Nathan Fillion

  27. cormano cormano says:

I think this story could be a really cool movie if they change the ending, but it seems like Moore has a more open ended story going on.  Also, I have a feeling that if this happens, it will be one of those comic book movies that the general public does not realize is a comic book movie.

  28. I’m always down for a film with interesting sci-fi elements.
