This is a weird week of comics.  I’m excited for Ultimatum #1, Final Crisis: Resist (which is about Checkmate during Final Crisis and is written by Rucka and Trautmann), and a new Jonah Hex

And that’s about it.  Not a lot to be really excited about on my end.

This week Josh has the Pick of the Week!

Bonus Question: What is your favorite Bill Murray movie?

Fraction Iron Man, Fun Franklin Richards, Secret Six, A Scott Morse hardcover. Its going to be a good medium sized week.

BQ: Don’t think I’ve seen enough Bill Murray movie, all I remember is Ground Hog Day.

  7. chlop chlop says:

BQ: Rushmore or The Man Who Knew Too Little

  8. RoiVampire RoiVampire says:

I don’t consider Ghostbusters to be a Bill Murray movie since the whole cast is great, so i’ll say Groundhog Day followed by Scrooged

"You think I’m scared of you? The day I’ve had!!!"

  9. Paradiddle Paradiddle says:

My wallet is extremely happy to have such a light week (only 4 books). Looking forward to JSA (as always) and House of Mystery the most, I guess. I hope this week’s issue of Trinity picks up the pace a bit, as well.

    BQ: Ghostbusters, without a doubt.

  10. ohcaroline ohcaroline says:

I’ve really been looking forward to the Tony+Peter reunion in ‘Invincible Iron Man,’ and I’m curious how Fraction’s gonna pull it off.  I’m also looking forward the the X-Men/Spider-Man mini (which looks to be a set of adventures over the years, hopefully in the XMen: First Class vein), and Cable.  I’ll probably pick up the next issue of Top Ten as well, as I enjoyed it after reading Josh’s POW review.  Lightish week, but hopefully fun stuff.

BQ:  "What About Bob?"  Don’t judge me.

  11. Alexferrer Alexferrer says:

Only JSA and Resist for me… Very light week.

  12. BetaRayRyan BetaRayRyan says:

A fairly light week for me.  The Spider-Man/X-Men book intrigues me.  I think I’ll buy it just for the combination of Kraven and The Blob.   The Avengers: Initiative book is also going on my list because I worship at the church of Slott.

BQ: I’ve never been a HUGE Bill Murray fan but I do love Ghostbusters.  But not as much as I love STRIPES!  And that’s a fact, Jack!

  13. patio patio says:

I’m looking forward to Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimatum, Weapon X: First Class, and Wolverine Power Pack. I hope Sumerak can live up to what Van Lente has been doing lately.

    What About Bob?

  14. It’s an all X-Men week sans the possible acquisition of DREAM HUNTERS. Big PCR fan and huge Sandman fan…seems like a can’t miss…why am I still reticent?

BONUS QUESTION: STRIPES…has to be Stripes. AAAarrrmmmyyy Traiiinnning SIR!

  15. I’m sadden that I have little to buy this week, but I’m happy cause I just saved a ton of money!

Sub-Mariner: The Depths, JSA, and Grant Morrisons Doctor Who just this week. All 3 great titles and hopefully they deliever.

BQ: Groundhog Day. The part where he is constantly killing himself is just too funny for words.

  16. comicdork37 comicdork37 says:

Finally a slow week. Only 2 for sure books and a few maybes after I flip through them on the racks.

Just a quick plug – if you are a professional wrestling fan (like me) check out Headlocked: The Tryout #1 (of 3) that comes out this week. I have no personal connection with this book I just love that there is a wrestling comic book that actually looks pretty good. You can read more about it at http://visionaryinprint.blogspot.com/2008/07/headlocked-print-list.html.

BQ – Ghostbusters or What About Bob?

  17. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Most excited for JSA, Gigantic, and Kull.

BQ: Rushmore with Lost in Translation and Life Aquatic tied in second.

  18. TheKZA TheKZA says:

Such a light week! For everyone it seems.  I’m down for JSA and Back to Brooklyn #2.  Might pick up the New Krypton Guardian special but it just seems like a fill-in book disguised as a chapter in New Krypton. They just wants mi moneys.

BQ: Groundhog Day, son. Not only my favourite Bill Murray flick, but one of my favourites for all time. On the other hand… there’s Ghostbusters. I’m so conflicted.

    OH! SPACE JAM!!

  19. HerrStarr HerrStarr says:

Real excited for Top 10, Sub-Mariner and House of Mystery

BQ: has to be Life Aquatic, one of my favorite movies ever, gotta love Wes Anderson films.

  20. UncleBob UncleBob says:

    Back to Brooklyn!

  21. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Please note: I had Ultimatum #1 on my pull list for several minutes until I was reminded it was written by Jeph Loeb.  It has been removed.  It is very important to me that anyone who saw it on my list know that it was a memory lapse and that the situation has been rectified.  I do not support this book in any way.

    Thank you.

  22. @Paul: But it’s written by one of the Marvel writers (notice I didnt say best) and one of the co-executive producers of He……Oh right

  23. mistersizzle mistersizzle says:

Looking forward to Jonah Hex as it is the only book I read that is so regularly fantastic.

BQ:  What About Bob?  The Tourettes bit is one of the funniest things to have ever graced the big screen.

  24. Tiocore Tiocore says:

Stoked On: Justuce Society of America, Jonah Hex

Kinda Excited For: Terra, Back to Brooklyn, Invincible Iron Man

    Suspect: House of Mystery, Ultimatum

B.Q. Life Aquatic. Also, Garfield, haha no.

  25. k5blazer k5blazer says:

@Paul: That was brutal! I gotta ask, why the dislike of Loeb? Was it Ultimates 3? Which really was bad…

BQ: Stripes!!   Evreything else is just playing catch up.

  26. Tiocore Tiocore says:

Oh snap! I just saw that someone above listed "Space Jam" as their favorite Bill Murray movie. I’d like to add that one to mine also!

  27. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

@k5blazer – I think the last straw for me was Fallen Son.  But I’m just not a fan in general.

  28. Garrett Garrett says:

Um, quiet week for me which is good after spending way too much lately. I’m just getting Spidey, X-Men & Spidey, Sub-Mariner, FC Resist and Secret Six. Maybe I’ll also pick up some random book that has the pretty-pretty too, with lots of pinks and blues.

BQ: as Bunny Breckinridge in Tim Burton’s "Ed Wood".

  29. androidmoser androidmoser says:

Light week for me, too. JSA, Resist, and Iron Man.

I have to agree with @RoiVampire that Ghostbusters is more of an ensemble movie, making Groundhog Day his best headlining effort.

  30. Timmy Wood TimmyWood (@TimmyWood) says:

    @Ghostbusters and Rushmore Tie

  31. Hoshigaki Hoshigaki says:

    BQ:  Groundhog Day and Rushmore.

  32. RobAbsten RobAbsten says:

I’m too giddy to think straight, now that Loeb has been let go from the Heroes writing staff. Sorry to be a negative nelly, but the man…naw, not gonna pile on. It’s not the time nor is it the place.

Can’t wait for Ab. Sandman 4, so I can finish the story (first time reading it).

Bonus: my favorite is my first: Meatballs. Saw it in a theatre. Are YOU ready for the summer? Hell, yeah I am!

Ghostbusters, What About Bob, Stripes, Quick Change, and Mad Dog & Glory are all excellent too. The later stages Murray, I’d go with Rushmore over Life Aquatic, and Lost in Translation over Rushmore.

  33.  Top 3

     Ultimatum

    Iron man

    Final Crisis Resist

    BQ: Ghostbusters and Rushmore

  34. Crippler Crippler says:

More books then you might expect.  Going to read Ultimatum even if it is Loeb (isn’t Bendis co-writing?).  Loving Secret Six and very excited for a new Sgt. Rock story.  Can’t decide if I want it in trade or issues.

Sad news – dropping Trinity, Invincible (returning to HCs) and Robin as a 20% increase in comic prices has resulted in me dropping 20% of my monthly titles (please end soon event books).

  35. Woo! O’neil on Vic Sage!

    -> Lost In Translation

  36. Crippler Crippler says:

BQ – What About Bob and Rushmore.

  37. bigyanks bigyanks says:

    BQ-has anyone mentioned stripes yet?

  38. s1lentslayer s1lentslayer says:

    Iron Man, Ultimatum, and Zombies.

    BQ: Kingpin or Ghostbusters.

  39. g0ofgnewt g0ofgnewt says:

    Spider-man 576

    Final Crisis: Resist#20

    Sicret Six #3

    Terror Titans #2

Bonus Question: I think it would have to be Ghostbusters.

    JSA#

  40. g0ofgnewt g0ofgnewt says:

I don’t know what happened with that post. I try to fix some spelling and it added the 20 from JSA #20 to the final crisis and put the bonus question in the middle.

  41. Eyun Eyun says:

Very poor week for me. Just Final Crisis, which I’m actually pretty stoked for as it’ll be nice to have Rucka back in the Checkmate world, if only for a short time. It’s also pretty handy not having many books as I really want the Nightwing: Freefall tpb.

BQ: Ghostbusters is a given, but I never really think of it as a "Bill Murray movie", it’s just Ghostbusters. If I’m honest I’m going with either Scrooged (my favourite christmas movie), or Quick Change (really underrated).

  42. Kory Kory says:

Most excited about JSA, Jonah Hex, Final Crisis: Resist and part 3 of New Krypton, other than those nothing really exciting.  I enjoy light weeks sometimes.

I can’t decide if I’m going to get Gigantic #1.  I may wait for the trade on that one.

  43. Kory Kory says:

    Forgot one thing…

BQ: Stripes.  Although Caddyshack was good,  it was more of an ensemble cast.

  44. Simmons Simmons says:

Good Bonus Question! So many good choices.

    Hamlet! no but seriously, Rushmore.

  45. xebix xebix says:

Looking forward to Amazing Spider-Man, Ultimatum, Weapon X: First Class, and JSA.

BQ: Where the Buffalo Roam. I loved his portrayal of Hunter S Thompson.

  46. lantern4life lantern4life says:

Lots of 1st issues for me.  Gigantic, Kull, Ultimatum, and a couple of one shots.

    BQ:  Stripes, Ghostbusters 1 & 2

  47. Diabhol Diabhol says:

Adam Legend Of Blue Marvel #1 (OF 4)
    Avengers Initiative Special
    Invincible Iron Man #7
    Iron Man End
    Marvel Zombies 3 #2 (OF 4)
    Ms Marvel Special Storyteller
    X-Men Manifest Destiny #3 (OF 5)

BQ: Ghostbusters, probably, though I gotta admit that I love Scrooged. Best X-Mas movie ever.

  48. Neb Neb says:

Looking forward to every this week.  Most interested in Gigantic, but I’m also excited for FC: Resist, Gemini, and Top 10.

BQ:  Life Aquatic followed closely by Ghostbusters with a hint of Stripes.

  49. Andrew Andrew says:

Man, tiny week! I’m only getting JSA and Amazing Spider-Man, but that allows me to pick up the last 4 or 5 issues of Trinity.

BQ: Ghostbusters and a close second in The Man Who Knew Too Little. If you haven’t seen it (or even heard of it) do yourself a favor and check it out.

  50. astyak astyak says:

What a light week. Only 4 books all from the House of Ideas. I have to say that I am most anticipating Ultimatum. Only because I’m truly hoping that this will not be major suckage. I’m hoping that Loeb got all the suck out of his system with Ultimates III. One thing is for sure when I like Loeb I realy like him. When I don’t like him I realy dislike him.

BQ: Stripes. How can you beat the aunt jemima treatment and an EM-50 Urban Assault Vehicle. Aaarmy training sir!

  51. christian christian says:
  52. MeanOldPig MeanOldPig says:

Two Vertigo books and one from Image. A very light week.

BQ: I am going to have to go with Paul on this one. Rushmore is just made of win.

  53. BenBugenig BenBugenig says:

Definitely a weird week, but Amanda Conner makes me happy.

BQ: Hmmmmmm… Gonna have to go with Ghostbusters, but its practically tied with Groundhog Day, its hard to deny such good lines as "Lets show this prehistoric bitch how we do things down town."

  54. Cooper Cooper says:

    DAMNIT.

Just when I thought this was going to be a quiet week I noticed that both Absolute Sandman AND the reprint of Absolute Watchmen come out.

I guess one can wait for now…

  55. Kimbo Kimbo says:

nice one of the weeks where I could just get 3 books or 3 books and an expensive impulse buy.

BQ: Rushmore for sure, followed closely by Ghostbusters

  56. biftec biftec says:

    Ghostbusters by a landslide.

  57. Josh Flanagan josh (@jaflanagan) says:

Disqualifying emsemble movies is dumb.  It’s a MOVIE with BILL MURRAY.  That’s all we’re looking for.

For me, it’s an even split of Peter Venkman and Herman Blume  2 sides of a coin.

I celebrate the guy’s entire catalog.

  58. JasonB35 JasonB35 says:

Groundhog Day is the best movie but Carl the Groundskeeper is probably my favorite character by far.

  59. JD JD says:

Wow, this is a first for me.  On the initial scrolling through this weeks books, there wasn’t a single pull for me… after going through it again, I pulled the new Sandman book (not the Absolute, those will be on my Christmas list).  I’m sure once I get to the store (Mike’s Comics in New Baltimore, MI), I’ll add a couple.

Was thinking of picking up House of Mystery, but they’re at #7…

  60. JD JD says:

The bonus question… not  Bill Murray fan at all.  But, I’d go with Lost in Translation for the Scarlett Johansson factor.

  61. CAM CAM says:

Can’t believe I only have 4 books, that hasn’t happened in ages.  What am I gonna read this week?

    BQ: MEATBALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  62. Groundhog Day

  63. baggo says:

    BQ: Definately Lost In Translation.

Ghostbusters is my favorite 80′s movie (and probably ranks in my all-time top 5), but as someone posted that movie is more of an ensemble.

  64. areml areml says:

unless "watching the watchmen" comes out this week, i have nothing to buy!

and it’s a tie between lost in translation and groundhog day.

  65. Paul Montgomery PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Watching the Watchmen has been out for a few weeks.  I know my B&N has it in the front kiosk.

  66. Kory Kory says:

Josh is right.  I was dumb for disqaulifying a movie because it was more of an ensemble cast.  That’s why I’m changing my answer to Charlie’s Angels.

Just kidding.  I’m going with Caddyshack, though there are many, many more to choose from.

  67. Ali Colluccio WonderAli (@WonderAli) says:

It’s a light week for me, which means more money in my pocket… so I got that going for me, which is nice.

BQ: I have to go with Ghostbusters. Ground Hog Day loses points because they didn’t shoot in Punxsutawney.

  68. HipHopHead HipHopHead says:

    CADDYSHACK!!!  "It’s in the hole"

  69. UncleBob UncleBob says:

@K5blazer:  Never liked any of Loeb’s work, at best tolerated his team ups with Sale.  Could not understand at all why Hush was so acclaimed, and have been a Batman fan for >15 years.

  70. Conor Kilpatrick conor (@cskilpatrick) says:

    @UncleBob – I’m with you, HUSH blew.

  71. Wait a tic….Doesnt Ron have the pick this week?

  72. Conor Kilpatrick conor (@cskilpatrick) says:

Nope, Josh.  Ron abdicated his week because he’s traveling and can’t do the Pick.

  73. burn burn says:

gurrilas, and finally a REAL issue of Skaar.

its a 3 way tie between Where the Buffalo Roam, Ed Wood, and Lost in Translation

  74. I’m most looking forward to reading  JSA, secret six and the guardian special.

BQ: thats like asking a parent to pick which of their children they like best. But if i have to choose its probably a tie between Rushmore and Groundhog’s Day. but, Where the Buffalo Roam is pretty great too…..

  75. roadcrew1 roadcrew1 says:

Light week for me.  ONLY 13 books.   That just doesn’t sound right.   Defintly looking forward to Resist.  Loved Checkmate but quit reading when Bruce Jones took over.  Never liked any of his stuff.  Interested in Ultimatium, but I haven’t read any Ultimate stuff since Ultimates 2 ended.  Mostly because Loeb wrote Ultimates 3 and I hate Loeb.

BQ:  I haven’t seen anybody mention it, but Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou cracked me up.  But mostly I agree with Josh, his catalog is full of classics.

  76. WadeWilson WadeWilson says:

Pretty quiet week. A good week to catch up on the trade pile!

My Top 3 for the week would be –

    Final Crisis Resist

    Secret Six

    JSA

And my Top 3 Bill Murray movies would be —

Ghostbusters (I went through a stage as a kid where I watched this daily, sometimes twice daily)

    What About Bob?

    Groundhog Day

Also a fan of Stripes, Kingpin & can’t believe how awesome he was in a serious role in Lost In Translation.

Longest answer ever, to a simple question, lol. Sorry, big Bill Murray fan here.
