And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Check out their pull lists: Dave, Jim, Paul, Mike, Chris, Molly, Ryan, Josh, Ben, Ali, Chris, Jeff, Matt and Timmy.
This week Josh Flanagan has the Pick of the Week!
Bonus Question: What movie would you like them to make a prequel of?

BQ – I have been waiting forever for Quinten Tarintino to write a Kill Bill Animated Prequel that stars the Deadly Viper Assanation Squad. I feel like I might have to keep waiting…
Looking forward to Secret and Dial H the most this week.
BQ: I really can’t think of a movie I’d liked to see a prequel of.
Animal Man
Before Watchmen
Dial H
Earth 2
Fairest
Secret
Stormwatch
Swamp thing
A rich full week, looking forward to them all.
BQ: Not a single one.
BQ – Star Wars
And Watchmen too.
And how about a prequel for that great movie, The Passion of the Christ? I’d love to read a treatment for some kind of “older” testament, telling us more about Jesus’ father and what He did pre-Year One AD.
5, not sure if i’m excited by any of them, and I never thought that i’d contemplate dropping a comic titled Avengers vs. X-Men, but if this week doesn’t offer something better, goddamnit Marvel, be better.
I imagine Animal Man & Dial H will be pretty sweet though, hopefully Secret will grab me more than the first issue as well. But in general comic lethargy today, perhaps bought on by the Queen deciding to stop me getting my comics till Thursday.
BQ: A Toy Story prequel, a short about the first toys. That I think would be good.
BQ- Goodfellas- “The Rise of Jimmy Two Times”
I’m gonna go get the papers, get the papers.
Wow, this is a seriously heavy week… Most looking forward to Animal Man and Swamp Thing. And I’m really enjoying Iron Man right now.
BQ: I can’t think of any. Maybe Tekkonkinkreet or The Amazing Screw-On Head?
an all DC week for me:
Animal Man
Swamp Thing
Dial H
and giving another chance to:
Action Comics
Earth 2
BQ: Purely as a comic fan (and indeed influenced by Watchmen)….The Incredibles.
The Incredibles sounds interesting. Good idea!
ANIMAL MAN #10
AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #5 (OF 12)
GREEN ARROW #10
Might flip though BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #1 too… I’m undecided on that one.
BQ: Weekend at Bernie’s… I imagine they could dive deep into the corporation’s history for some prime back-story.
Six books this week, and they are all really good. POW for me will be a tough choice, any week with books from Francavilla and Cooke is a great week. I can’t wait for Wednesday!
Animal Man
BW: Minutemen
Earth2
Popeye
Swamp Thing
Winter Soldier
BQ: V for Vendetta…..kidding! Seriously though, prequels are tough. I can’t think of any right now, I will ponder and return later if I think of any.
Light one for me. Just AVX and Thief of Thieves. Sampling Earth 2 and Journey into Mystery. If a cursory flip through Uncanny X-Men looks awesome, I’ll get that too. I dropped it because I couldn’t take Greg Land anymore, and the stories weren’t grabbing me. Sounds like this issue is less of a tie-in (plus!), but Billy Tan is on art (minus!).
BQ: Inception – I want to know more about how the tech was developed and how Cobb learned to work within the dream world.
That was the problem with Inception. It was a sequel to a movie that didn’t exist.
I’m back!! Just spent the week in South Carolina to see my sone graduate boot camp at Fort Jackson and boy was it something. He got to see his daughter for the first time and spend some quality time with everyone. So I just picked up last weeks books two days ago and now I am way behind, there were certain issues I did not know came out last week so I have to pick those up this Wednesday when I get this weeks books as well. I am going to be behind for like a week I think which; to be honest is not to bad since I will have plent to read except, it makes it difficult to make comments on here a week later.
I see there are some Iron Man 3 screen shots rolling around as well this week and they look pretty cool!! I am looking forward to XVSA and probably Earth 2, Worlds Finest and the Watchmen book. Comment you all later my freinds….
K
Congrats on the family joy!
SECRET #2
AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #5 (OF 12)
THE DEFENDERS #7
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #639
FURY MAX #3
UNCANNY X-MEN #13
WINTER SOLDIER #6
ACTION COMICS #10
ANIMAL MAN #10
BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #1 (OF 6)
DETECTIVE COMICS #10
EARTH 2 #2
SWAMP THING #10
WORLDS’ FINEST #2
BQ: Shoot em up
This week feels like tip-toeing through a mine field. Excited for Secrets #2, I guess, but like last week, nothing is getting me super jazzed for Wednesday. Now, back to Diablo 3.
BQ: Nothing cuz prequels are terrible, but Pulp Fiction maybe????? I feel like you could possibly do something there that isn’t god awful…
i could dig more jules and vincent adventures.
just please, no more zed. too scary.
He said a long time ago he was going to do something with the Vega Brothers.
I usually criticize other people for bubbling themselves, but I wish I had a way to lock all mentions of Before Watchmen on the internet. Anything that could’ve been said has already been said, and now it’s just click-baitors and ignorant toolbags. Since I have no interest in the comics, I wish didn’t have to suffer through this circus.
Avengers vs. X-Men 5, Uncanny X-Men 13, Action Comics 10. The usual. May pick up Earth Two. Should I?
BQ: The Vega Brothers, a sort of prequel to Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. But Tarantino has backed out of the project, if I remember correctly.
That’s the prequel that first came to my mind, too. Imagine it with maybe Gosling and Gordon-Levitt.
BQ:
Preguel to Superman Returns w/ Brandon Routh & have Brainiac (not that robot chick from Superman III) as the villain. No Krytponian trio led by Zod, a new adventure.
Matthew
Got Action Comics, Iron Man, Secret (finally) & Age Of Apocalypse out!
BQ- Paris, Texas- like to see the good times & then the bad times, leading up to Travis’ breakdown! (Sorry I like pretty heavy going films)
Definitely looking forward to Invincible Iron Man this week, along with X-Factor and Animal Man. Have a heavy-ish week with 7 books. JLI is ending, though, so only a few more issues of that. Which is a shame, I’m enjoying that book.
BQ: I always thought they should have made a prequel to Rocky, focusing on the story of Apollo Creed, how he rose up through the slums in LA to become champion of the world. The hints at his backstory in Rocky III were my favorite part of the movie, would have liked to have seen that explored more fully.
I’d watch that.
Yep. Opening night.
I am really looking forward to HARBINGER. Dysart’s UNKNOWN SOLDIER and his BPRD books, 1946 and 1947, were excellent, and I really would love to see him doing more.
Kinda big pull this week, no thanks to Earth-2 and Dial H being so fraggin good.
BQ: I kinda always wanted to see that Jules and Vega prequel Tarantino talked about some time ago but alas Jackson and Travolta are bit to old.
A pretty light week for me but I am excited for all of them so that’s good.
Animal Man
BW: Minutemen
Earth Two
Nightforce
Swamp Thing
Ultimate Spider-Man
BQ: This is a tough one dudes. I like the Star Wars answer. Made me laugh.
I didn’t realize half of my pulls dropped this week. Look forward to Harbinger, but Winter Soldier is a priority. I can’t pass on a Brubaker/Lark collabo.
Action Comics
AvX
Fury MAX
GI Combat
Harbinger
Popeye
Thief of Thieves
Ultimate SM
Winter Soldier
X-O Manowar
BQ: That’s a tough one. It’s too bad Travolta and Madsen got to old for the Vega Brothers prequel. That would’ve been fun.
BQ: I would love a prequel to Beetlejuice where we see how he becomes the monster he becomes. Just to see Michael Keaton in the role again would be worth doing alone! : )
Crazy big week after last week’s “fifth week” slowness. Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Earth 2, World’s Finest, Dial H being among the ones I’m looking forward to most. Plus the 16th Walking Dead trade.
Whew! I need to start saving my pennies!
As for the BQ: Tough call. Sequels are often tough enough, let alone prequels.
But, in the spirit of Prometheus, I guess I’ll say a “Predator” prequel. Because a) you don’t have to worry about the age of the cast and b) how cool would it be to see a Predator versus a figure from history? A little gladiator type fighting maybe? Lots of options for something like that.
Historical fiction predator? You win.
Teddy Roosevelt hunts the Predator….holy crap.
I was thinking about Predator 2 when the one Predator hands Glover the flintlock pistol. They’ve been here before, so it’s wide open and could easily be done in continuity.
@ Ken – I never knew how much I was missing that sentence from my life until now. Thank you.
Animal Man
Swamp Thing
Earth 2
Before Watchmen: Minutemen
Ultimate Comics: Spider-Man
Dark Avengers
AvX
Decent week for comics. Probably most excited for Earth 2. First issue was pretty good. Not sure about Dark Avengers though but hopefully it reads like a first issue. Preview looked good though. Minutemen also looks pretty good, no doubt because of Cooke. Everything else is more of the same.
action, earth2, aoa, minutemen, red lanterns, dark avengers
BQ: casablanca, the godfather, dick tracy, uncle buck, unforgiven
Do you guys think Harbinger will be worth picking up? I’m not familiar with Valiant but I enjoyed X-O Manowar and Archer looks great.
Also I’m Excited For
X-O Manowar
Winter Solider (Brubaker and Lark reunited)
AvX
Action and Detective are getting my last chances this week
AVENGERS VS. X-MEN #5 (OF 12)
EARTH 2 #2
FURY MAX #3
SUPER DINOSAUR #11
UNCANNY X-MEN #13
BQ: Oooh, Metamorphic’s historical Predator idea is good. Let’s do that one.
Doh, XO Manowar #2 is out this week too? I’m also gonna grab that. #1 was fun.
This week is more like it! Books a plenty! Very excited for Action, AoA, X-Factor, Supurbia, Earth 2, Minutemen, and Morning Glories…giving the Dark Avengers a shot seeing if that works better for me than the Secret Avengers. Also Extermination from BOOM! is a buck…I can’t say no to that!
BQ: I would love to see Pee’s Wee’s Mid-sized Adventure
Prophecy #1 (maybe)
Action Comics #10
Animal Man #10
Detective Comics #10
Earth 2 #2 (a great sandbox comic, so much potential)
Swamp Thing #10
World’s Finest #2
Secret #2 (hated the ending of the first issue, but still very good)
Age of Apocalypse #4 (not sure why this isn’t more popular)
A Vs. X #5 (too far in to drop)
Fury Max #3
X-Factor #237
Fairest #4 (best art month after month now)
I, Zombie #26 (too bad this is going away)
X-O Manowar #2 (great first issue)
We got comics, we got e3, we got a lot of nice stuff this week.
Dial H
Journey Into Mystery
Secret
Swamp Thing
Sweet Tooth
BQ: It would take me a while to think of a favorite movie of mine (cause I have so many)….But recently? How about Trollhunter? Not the remake that isn’t out yet but the original, Swedish version. That movie was a lot of fun to watch and I wanna know more about the Trollhunter.
I could totally go for some more Trollhunter.
USM- #11
Earth 2 #2
AvX #5
Possible
Berefore watchmen Minutement #1
BQ- No idea
BQ: I have no idea but I want a reboot of Ghostbusters.
A friend and I recently had a discussion about who we would want to see cast as the new generation of Ghostbusters. I’d want to see Simon Pegg and Nick Frost. He’d like to see Donald Glover and another actor I’d never heard of.
I just thought of one. A prequal of the Karate Kid. Showing Me. Miaugi when he was a teenager. That would be cool.
*Mr*
The week is made a little meatier since I’ll be picking up last week’s books as well.
BEFORE WATCHMEN: MINUTEMEN #1 (OF 6)
CREATOR OWNED HEROES #1
EARTH 2 #2
FURY MAX #3
JOURNEY INTO MYSTERY #639
WINTER SOLDIER #6
So stoked for Fury Max and Winter Soldier. I’m really excited about the Minutemen series because everything Darwyn Cooke touches is gold.
BQ: How about “Before Jaws: How Quint Got So Grizzled and Salty.”
Secret
Sweet Tooth
Minutemen
Believe it or not, 3 day + date releases is more than I’ve bought since I was about 15!
BQ: Hellboy?
Action Comics #10, Avengers Academy #31, Avengers vs. X-Men #5, Swamp Thing #10, The Mighty Thor Annual #1, Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #11, Uncanny X-Men #13, and Winter Soldier #6.
BQ: Transformers. Use the script from Fight for Cybertron or Fall of Cybertron.
Action Comics 10, Animal Man 10, Dial H 2, Earth Two 2, and Swamp Thing 10. A nice week with Robinson, Morrison, Lemire, and Snyder.
I may or may not pick up Before Watchmen. I’m still very conflicted about it…. I’m still trying to play catch up on Fantastic Four, Spider-Man, and Daredevil.
Both your name and your avatar make me want to buy you a beer.
BQ: Memento. I’d love to see what happens next.
that’s brilliant.
Hack/Slash, AvX, aaand whatnot.
BQ: Basic Instinct: the college years
BQ: Reservoir Dogs.
Definitely a light week:
A v X 5. It was off to a great start but I might drop soon.
Just learned about “The Secret History.”?!? Holy crap this is great!
Had no idea Fury 3 was out this week, guess i’ll be heading back to the comic shop tomorrow
