New Comics for 02.27.2013 did not win his Oscars pool

Get to pulling this Wednesday’s books, and then let us know what you’re looking forward to most, what you’re dropping, what others should be buying and anything you’re thinking. Be heard, because we need you, iFanbase!

What are the iFanboys buying? Check their pull lists out here: Conor, Josh, and Paul.

And what about the rest of the staff? What are they buying? Check out their pull lists: Jim, Mike, Molly, Ryan, Ali, Timmy, Chris, Jeff, and Matt.

This week Conor Kilpatrick has the Pick of the Week!

Bonus Question: This year we added weighted scores to our Oscars pool and when you combine that with a bunch of unusually unpredictable major categories it led to a really fun pool at my annual Academy Awards Party. I was right in it up until the end when I took a chance that Jessica Chastain was going to edge out Jennifer Lawrence and I never recovered and finished third. How did you do in your pool?

Comments

  1. Looking forward to Batman Inc. this week! Also Agenging Spiderman, FF, and Uncanny Avengers/X-Men.

BQ: I did pretty good with my pics, only major one I did not get right was Best Director, I had no idea on that one so I picked Spielberg. It really should have been Ben Affleck but oh well.

  2. BATMAN Inc. #8
    YOUNG AVENGERS #2
    UNCANNY AVENG. #4
    FF #4
    GUARDIANS of the GALAXY #0.1
    WITCH DOCTOR: MAL PRACTICE #4

BQ: I didn’t have a pool, but I was glad to see ARGO win best picture, though I can never figure out how a movie wins best pic, yet the director of the movie doesn’t: Strange. And also glad about SEARCHING for SUGAR MAN winning for Best Documentary. This is an excellent film. A well deserved win for both.

  3. Flash
    Deadpool Kilustrated
    Thunderbolts
    Guardians of the Galaxy

BQ: Was working and missed the Oscars:(

  4. My pull buttons don’t work! Hmmm… in for a few this week – haven’t been reading much – I like to build up a nice big stack of everything and then read 4-5 issues per series at a time.

Oscars – didn’t watch, no interest. Watched this week’s new Comic Book Men instead… that was not great either.

  5. Getting:

    Batman Inc
    The Flash
    Justice League Dark
    Young Avengers

And maybe SkullKickers or the Rocketeer mini.

BQ: i half heartedly watched, but didn’t have a pool, w00t for the Django wins. Far more entertained by comedians on twitter. Then i watched Ultraman & old Doctor Who;)

  6. This week I’m getting the latest Flash, and I’ve been tearing my hair out waiting for “Nowhere Men #4”. thinking about picking up the latest GhostBusters as well.

    Never watched the oscars.

  7. Good big week Batman Inc., Uncanny X-Men, Prophet, Hawkeye, Comeback, The Unwritten & The Legend Of Luther Strode!

  8. Cant wait for Guardians of the Galaxy!
Hey is any one else having their pull list act weird? Stuff is listed in my comics but not pulled (cant rate) then if I try and print my list its got last weeks stuff in there, is this just me? 🙂

  9. FF #4
    GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #0.1
    HAWKEYE #8
    JOE KUBERT PRESENTS #5
    PUNISHER: WAR ZONE #5
THE LEGEND OF LUTHER STRODE #3
    THE ROCKETEER: HOLLYWOOD HORROR #1
    UNCANNY AVENGERS #4
    UNCANNY X-MEN #2
    X-MEN LEGACY #6
    YOUNG AVENGERS #2

X-Men Legacy week is always a good week.

BQ: Now I know how my wife feels when I start talking computer or car stuff. Is this like Dungeons and Dragons for movie buffs similar to how fantasy sports are Dungeons and Dragons for sports nerds?

  10. Flash #17
    Hawkeye #8
    Uncanny Avengers #4

Maybe Guardians of the galaxy #0.1

  11. Big ones this week are Angel & Faith, Avengers Arena and Future Foundation.

BQ: I didn’t have a pool so I really don’t care. But glad that Christoph Waltz and Argo won in their respective slots.

  12. Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1
    Batman Incorporated #8
    Uncanny X-Men #2
    Young Avengers #2
    Uncanny Avengers #4
    Hawkeye #8
    FF #4

BQ: I don’t do care about Oscar Pools but I was really happy with the actual results. All of the acting and writing winners were good choices and while Argo was my fourth choice (behind Django, Zero Dark, and Silver Linings) it is still a great movie. And thankfully Lincoln didn’t win.

  13. ANGEL & FAITH #19
    AQUAMAN #17
    BATMAN, INCORPORATED #8
    GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #0.1
    HAWKEYE #8
STAR WARS: AGENT OF THE EMPIRE – HARD TARGETS #5
    THE ROCKETEER: HOLLYWOOD HORROR #1
    UNCANNY AVENGERS #4
    UNCANNY X-FORCE #2
    UNCANNY X-MEN #2
    YOUNG AVENGERS #2

All good, but my absolute most anticipated book is the digital release of the Mask of the Red Panda, based on the greatest podcast radio adventure show in existence. Here’s a preview:http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=preview&id=15431

BQ: No pool, but I quite enjoyed the Oscars. Seth Macfarlane was great, nice spread of winners, and my pick got Best Picture! Good times.

  14. BQ I didnt watch really .. i was hovering in another room while the oscars were on.. i just walked in the room to say Life of Pi should win on cinematography and special effects.. and then it did .. so im a 100 percent on my only two picks. The next time they make an avengers or hobbit .. someone should ask Ang Lee who to get for special effects because that guy knows the right people. Man they never filmed any of it in the ocean.,. it was filmed indoors and obviously without a real tiger. Ive never seen fake things looks so real before. Best effects ive ever seen. Last time i thought so much of effects was the original Hulk movie with Bana.. HULK NEVER LOOK SO GOOD.. even ten years later.

  15. Let’s face it…this week is all about Damien Wayne. Aside from that, looking forward to Hawkeye.

Predicting Batman Incorporated #8 is Pick of the Week. How is that for an answer to the “pool” question?

  16. HAWKEYE #8
    JUSTICE LEAGUE DARK #17
    UNCANNY AVENGERS #4
    THE FLASH #17
    BATMAN: THE DARK KNIGHT #17
    BATMAN, INCORPORATED #8

I don’t bother with an Oscars Pool.

  17. Light week, but that is welcome after last week

  18. Good week for books. Not many on my pull list, but I’m looking forward to them anyway – YOUNG AVENGERS 2, AVENG ARENA 5, FF 4, HAWKEYE 7?, and of course BATMAN INC. with its stunning plot turn.

BQ: I haven’t done an Oscar pool in a while, I got burnt out on them and decided it’s more pleasant to watch when I don’t have $ riding on it. March Madness, however….

  19. Guardians of the Galaxy #0.1, Hawkeye #8, Teen Titans #17, TMNT: Secret History of the Foot Clan #3, The Flash #17 & Uncanny X-Force #2

  20. Comeback #4, Batman Inc. #8, Aquaman #17, Justice League Dark #17 & The Flash #17.

BQ : Didn’t do an Oscars pool. I reserve that pleasure for the Eurovision Song Contest.

  21. It’s a hearty week … well by my standards at least! All Star Western has been consistently good and the last issue was damn near my POTW. I can’t remember which of the Transformer books I’m getting, so I pulled this one just in case.

    ALL-STAR WESTERN #17
    HAWKEYE #8
    JOE KUBERT PRESENTS #5
    PUNISHER: WAR ZONE #5
THE TRANSFORMERS: ROBOTS IN DISGUISE #14
    YOUNG AVENGERS #2

BQ: Errr Walking Dead for me so I missed the Oscars entirely.

  22. Aquaman #17
    Punisher: Warzone #5
I know, my pulls are a slim list. Not so much money, so I have to be picky. Really psyched about the end of Warzone. Rooting for Frank all the way. I shan’t be reading Batman Inc because I don’t like the concept of it and have no interest in it, but SPOILERS IN CASE YOU’VE AVOIDED THE INTERNET LIKE THE PLAGUE TODAY I’m interested to see how Damian’s death pans out in the main Batman title, and I like my Batman solo, so I call that a win.

  23. Pretty moderate week for me, I’m excited for The Unwritten, The Massive, and FF.

    FF
    I,Vampire
    Luther Strode
    The Massive
    The Unwritten
    Witch Doctor
    Young Avengers

BQ: This was the second year me and my friends did Fantasy Oscars. It’s like fantasy sports, but you draft Actors/Actresses, Directors, and Movies. You get points when your selections are mentioned or shown on screen, and three points for winning an award. It’s a lot of fun and you don’t have to be great at picking winners, plus the whole show there is chance to get points, so there is never a dull moment. I recommend giving it a try next year.

  24. Aquaman
    Batman INC
    Talon

BQ: Did not do a pool but I was wrong on a lot of choices. Other than the acting categories I pretty much thought everything was gonna go to Lincoln. But man that things got pretty much snubbed apart from Daniel Day Lewis and the Production Design. Did not see Argo winning Best Picture or Ang Lee getting Best Director.

  25. Huge week for me. Pulling 12 books?!

Marvel is killing me with this almost weekly schedule for several of their titles.

Looking forward to Witch Doctor: Malpractice #4. Really enjoying this series so far.

  26. It’s a good week for me!

PROPHET (probably my favourite comic right now), HAWKGUY & FF are the ones I’m most excited about.

I’m also really happy Image is reprinting NOWHERE MEN, because it’s been impossible to find.

  27. Timmy Wood won in both his oscar pools. One weighted. One not.
He lost on Best Supporting Actor, Best Director and Short Documentary. Got every single other one right.
He will act as consultant for next year for a small fee.

  28. I won my Oscar pool this year. Dad came in second and Mom dead last. Winner picks where to have dinner and loser plays for it.

Happy to see Argo win Best Picture. I was thought it’d be Life of Pi, but I’m happy Affleck got the gold.

  29. Light week for me. Looking forward to Batman Inc.

BQ: Didn’t do a pool this year. Which kinda sucks because I would’ve done pretty well. I predicted most of the major awards except for Lee as Director. Ironically, I can’t remember another year where I saw so few of the nominated films, and still managed to predict it so closely. Probably says more about Hollywood than it does about my mad skills.

  30. Probably my last issue of Uncanny Avengers. The bizarre tone of the last issue was amplified by the deteriorating quality of the art. Giving up All-Star and Batman, Inc. this week too.

    ALL-STAR WESTERN
    AQUAMAN
    BATMAN, INCORPORATED
    DOCTOR WHO: PRISONERS OF TIME
    HAWKEYE
    JOE KUBERT
    MACGYVER
    PROPHET
    PUNISHER: WAR ZONE
    THE FLASH
    THE ROCKETEER
    UNCANNY AVENGERS

BQ: I can’t watch the Oscars. The super-rich and good-looking congratulating one another for being super-rich and good-looking isn’t my idea of a good time.

  31. Avengers Arena— Still waiting to see how Arcade got the tech/power to pull this off… this killer island thing is so far beyond giant killer pinball machines…
Avenging Spider-Man— Otto-Spider and the Future Foundation, should be fun
FF—Loving the art, still getting a feel for the post Hickman F4/FF….
Guardian of the Galaxy—Alright Bendis, I was never sold on your Avengers stuff, but I’ve been enjoying the X-stuff, lets see what you got for Cosmic Chops…
    Hawkeye—Well, hell yeah
    Masks—Wait, a non-Marvel book? How’d that get in here… oh yeah a Pulp Crossover book…
Uncanny Avengers—Excited for Sunfire to join the team….
Uncanny X-Men—Magneto betrayed the X-Men, unsurprising… but to SHIELD?!
X-Men Legacy—Who knew Legion could be so entertaining, course the only Legion thing I’ve read before this title was the Legion Quest story arc that kicked off Age of Apocalypse back in the day…
Young Avengers—The first issue was great, hope they keep it up

BQ: Meh, didn’t watch, didn’t care.

  32. A much shorter list for me this week. And top of the list? Batman Inc. 8 (though I’ve already dipped into the spoilers).

Why, I even have yet another Marvel book on my list with Uncanny X-Men (though seriously, Cyclops….WHY PUT MAGNETO ON YOUR X-TEAM? When has that EVER ended well?)

As for the BQ: I’m just not into the Oscars the way I once was. So no pool for me.

  33. Just FF #4 and Five Weapons #1 for me. I thought Mind the Gap was supposed to be out this week?

BQ: I didn’t watch the OScars.

  34. Uncanny Avengers
    Uncanny X-Men
    Red Lanterns
    Aquaman
    Batman TDK
Flash ( the last one for this arc and that’s it. Dropped)
    Masks
    Peter Cannon Thunderbolt
    and Punisher War Zone

BQ: I watch maybe 3 movies a year ( at least until kids get older and they start making something watchable) thats what I love about comics… short and sweet.
