Finally, the people's choice has been cast as a major super hero… albeit an animated one. Nathan Fillion will be playing Hal Jordan in Green Lantern: Emerald Knights, the second DC Universe Animated Original Movie of 2011. It's a Green Lantern Corps anthology film timed to release alongside the live action Green Lantern film.
Nathan Fillion is no stranger to Green Lantern, having shown up as Hal Jordan in that very clever fan made trailer in 2009 that was made before Ryan Reynolds was cast as Hal Jordan in this summer's big Green Lantern live action film. And Fillion's no stranger to DC animation, having voiced Steve Trevor in the DC Universe Animated Original Movie Wonder Woman and Vigilante in Justice League Unlimited.
Green Lantern: Emerald Knights is set to be released in June 2011.
Update: I completely forgot that Nathan Fillion and Ryan Reynolds were co-stars on Two Guys, A Girl, And A Pizza Place. How weird that they are both now playing Hal Jordan. Anyway, how great is this quote from Fillion: "I was always reading the comic books, I was always a spectator. Now I feel like I own a little piece of Green Lantern."

If he was about 3 years younger, I think he would’ve gotten the big screen role. There is just so much Hal Jordan in Malcolm Reynolds. It’s a shame. This should be good though. How about Baldwin as Kilowog and Alan Tudyk as well, everybody else. That guy has tons of voices.

@purplehulk My understanding was that it was suppose to come out later, with this one coming out around the time of the GL Movie ala Gotham Knights with The Dark Knight.
