Light Week? Try PLANETOID #1, DANCER #2, or AMERICAN VAMPIRE: LORD OF NIGHTMARES #1

Where have I inherited this reputation? I have never done business with anybody–and Jerry is my witness–that I have ever, ever, ever… has that phone ever rang… has that phone ever rang with a complaint about me? Never… Never! So let’s go, I’ll buy you some comics.

Josh says try…

Planetoid #1

By Ken Garing

Maybe you’ve heard the story, but it’s a good story, so there’s reason to repeat it. Ken Garing went and made this comic book, and it debuted on Graphicly. Image saw it, and decided to pick it up. Fairytale! Our man Paul Montgomery has been bullish on this from the start, and if you’ve been paying attention, there’s been plenty of Planetoid around here, including a Don’t Miss podcast. But if you missed that, don’t miss this. It’s a former soldier turned space pirate with all the praise we can put behind it! If you don’t listen to this one last plaintive suggestion, you’ll have no excuse when you feel left behind later.

Ron says try…

Dancer #2

By Nathan Edmonds0n & Nic Klein

There sure have been a lot of new comics this year and Dancer is absolutely one of them. Nathan Edmondson weaves a solid story and the dazzling art of Nic Klein is not to be missed. Missed issue #1 and didn’t get it digitally? Well, you’re in luck, there’s a second printing of issue #1 on sale this week too, so you’ve got no excuse not to try something like new…like Dancer.

American Vampire: Lord of Nightmares #1

By Scott Snyder & Dustin Nguyen

The sequel to American Vampire: Survival of the Fittest promises more awesome 1940s era vampire hunting action. If you remember the first mini-series you’ll probably remember that it was awesome. So this promises more awesome. And who doesn’t like more awesome? Sourpusses, that’s who. And you don’t want to be a sourpuss, do you?

Comments

  1. Has Scott Snyder ever worked with a less than great artist? I have yet to see an announcement like “The next arc on Scott Snyder’s book will be drawn by Greg Land!” Everyone he collaborates with is great.

    • It seemed like everyone has a love affair with him, but Jordi Bernet’s art on “The Beast in the Cave” AV story was gag-inducing for me.

  2. I think Ron missed an adjective here or this is the least exciting endorsement ever.

“There sure have been a lot of new comics this year and Dancer is absolutely one of them.”

  3. Could someone who has never read American Vampire read this and enjoy it? I love all of Snyder’s stuff, and have been meaning to get AV trades, but I also wouldn’t mind picking this up tomorrow!

  4. I think The Massive is also a great suggestion.

  5. i’m going for the Hat Trick and picking up all 3! The First issue of Dancer was pretty fun, and i’m interested in seeing where its going.

  6. I finally caught up and finished Survival of the Fittest this morning, and awesome is the proper descriptive word. I can’t wait to read this next one. Plus Nguyen on art. I like to call that Nguyening.

  7. I know others have said it before, and it’s different for everyone, but …. LIGHT WEEK, ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!,

I have about half my monthly stack coming out this week, but that does include giving Planetoid a shot.

I hope everyone enjoys there week weather it is heavy or light.

  8. Light week at retail, but heavy week for subscriptions.

I may give Planetoid a look, but budgetary restrictions will probably keep me from adding titles.

Also, recent issues with Diamond and my LCS mean that I’ll likely be supporting creator-owned and independent books in trade, as I can no longer be assured of receiving books that I’ve pre-ordered, and risk either being sold out of an issue, or having to hunt around at other stores to get missing books. It happens more and more with small-press books, and has become such an annoyance that it will keep me from supporting these types of books in the future. My LCS still hasn’t received Manhattan Projects #3. Don’t get me started on BOOM! or Dynamite. What a debacle.
