Light Week? Try SPAWN #231, TEN GRAND #1, & G-MAN VOL 03

“Oh, my sweet summer child,” Old Nan said quietly, “what do you know of light weeks? Fear is for the winter, my little lord, when the snows fall a hundred feet deep and the ice wind comes howling out of the north. Fear is for the long night, when the sun hides its face for years at  time, and little children are born and live and die all in darkness while the direwolves grow gaunt and hungry, and the white walkers move through the woods”

Spawn #231

By Todd McFarlane & Szymon Kudranski

This reminds me of a Spider-Man comic I used to love. There is so much irony in this cover image that I can’t even begin to fathom it. I don’t know. It’s part 3 of the “Complex Messiah” story. So maybe that’s a thing we all didn’t know to expect.

Yeah, I got nothing this week.

Ten Grand_1_A

Ten Grand #1

By J. Michael Straczynski & Ben Templesmith

Listen, I know, okay. I KNOW. All the jokes, all the comments, all the snark–I’ve made it all in my head already. I know. I also know that I’m a sucker for Ben Templesmith’s work so I’m going to give this a shot. And hey, it’s not like he hasn’t already worked on another Image book with a high profile writer that never finished… See!

G-Man, Vol 03: Coming Home

  1. I picked up the first two G-Man trades from Chris Giarrusso at C2E2 because 1) I was pretty sure I would like it and 2) That commercial. After reading the first story in the first trade, I realized I should have grabbed the third one while I was there. It’s good stuff.

  2. Kind of surprised at no The movement #1, Gail Simone and the art looks solid. Giving that and Ten Grand a try.

  3. I have been considering getting back into Spawn, but I just don’t know……..

  4. no judgements from me, Conor. We know JMS can do a good first issue!

  5. Josh, were you drunk when you posted this?

  6. I’ll be giving Mind the Gap a shot. Lots of folks had good things to say about it and a dollar isn’t gonna break the bank.

  7. I’m going to give the Movement a go.

  8. Every time someone mentions Fell, it really bums me out. Just re-read all the issues the other day. I need RESOLUTION!

  9. Every time someone mentions Fell, it really bums me out. Just re-read all the issues the other day. I need RESOLUTION! I also really need to know if PRETTY BABY MACHINE kill Al Capone.

    • Avatar photo Paul Montgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

You should read Ellis’ novel Gun Machine. It feels like his way of continuing Fell on in spirit.

    • I plan to read Gun Machine because Ellis is my favorite comic writer of all time but my god was “Crooked little vein” weird and well…. it was really fucking weird.,. and not in a good way.

  10. Hell yeah Josh! The Jim Downing era is in full bloom, and Spawn has been really good lately. The Curse (from way back early in the series) is making an appearance soon, and the story has been picking up steam. Plus that cover brings me back to my childhood. Ten Grand is my game day decision: JMS and Templesmith are hard to turn down (even though I haven’t read his work since his he let me down on Superman).

  11. Ten grand was how much he was paid for that issue…
