USA Today reports on a new time-romp courtesy of Kirkman and Liefeld.
Image hath already United, but you know that's not the last of the partners' group efforts. The irrepressible Robert Kirkman teamed with Todd McFarlane on the ongoing Haunt back in Fall '09, and for his next trick, he's tapped yet another founder, artist Rob Liefeld. The partners will collaborate on The Infinite, launching in August through Kirkman's Skybound imprint.
The pitch is reminiscent of the Terminator film franchise and the X-Men's "Days of Future Past" mythos, detailing a dystopian warrior's mission to the past to meet up with a former version of himself. Together, Bowen and 19-year-old Bo must defeat a villainous entity known as the Infinite, who's already laid waste to the future.
Liefeld puts it best with the tagline: "It's a buddy movie with yourself."
Look for The Infinite in August.

Damn that’s a great tagline and I bet Kirkman will make this real fun.
So excited for this…two great tastes that taste great together.
no thanks
A buddy movie with yourself. that sounds somewhat mastabatory to me.
There are alot of different ideas going on in that photo, i wonder if the story will be full of them as well.
I really hope Liefeld has an inker for this.
A laser sword!! What a novel idea!
my word those character designs look lazy
Art looks great. Concept too. I was about to give up on Kirkman, but I suppose vol 1 will be good, as usual. I just hope the following vols. don’t get too weird with the plots. Also, this sounds like a great movie pitch.
kirkman needs to pace himself. He’s doing so many series in addition to the tv show. But he’s my favorite writer so its cool.
Ugh, that art style is so terrible and dated now.
Kirkman really is tempting the limits of my loyalty by announcing a new series with Liefeld. For this first time ever, this may be a wait for trade Kirkman book for me.
I didnt know art could be dated @ronswanson?
Kirkman makes this tempting, everyone has hate for Liefeld but I wont HATE one the dude just to jump on the band wagon…seems a bit immature.
I will give it a shot at first, if I dont like it ill drop it simple.
why does the silver guy have two torches strapped to his chest? (especialy when he seems to be quite luminate already?) I’M IN!
What a shock! People are bashing Rob Liefeld! That is FAR more dated than anything in his character designs.
his sounds like a fun concept. Kirkman is a fantastic writer. Liefeld may not be my favorite artist, but I think he’s pretty good. The guy had a couple of bad panels that got blown way out of proportion by people on the internet who want to sound superior and elitist. Whatever. You can trash ANY artist if you want to focus on a couple of bad pages instead of their entire body of work. For whatever reason, Liefeld is the internet’s whipping boy. It’s old, it’s tired and it’s lazy.
I’m excited about this. Kirkman has a great track record for me. Invincible is the best superhero comic on the stands in my opinion, The Walking Dead is the phenomenon that it is and Haunt has been really entertaining so far, though I haven’t been blown away by it yet. I don’t have an opinion on Liefeld, but I like his enthusiasm for comics. A sci-fi time-travel team book by Kirkman sounds intriguing.
@wayne2001bc Yeah, I agree with this. I’m giving Liefeld a chance, and he truly does love comics, and it seems like he is having fun on this project, which will make it funner to read. Its also nice to hear some good thoughts on Haunt, although I’m actually really enjoying it.
I don’t hate Liefeld, but I really do dislike his art. It’s enough to turn me off a book even if Kirkman is writing it. I have no interest in sounding superior or elitist, for what it’s worth.
@4iiii —yes its extremely possible for art to become dated, especially when the style is so identifiable with a specific point and time. Sometimes its retro, sometimes its dated. For me Liefield is quintessential 90s comic art. it would take a lot of really stellar reviews to get me to go back to the 90s well on this.
@r3v It’s perfectly fine to not like his art if you don’t like it. I actually am not much of a fan of his art myself. I just hate the knee jerk trashing of the guy. Why is Liefeld the only artist that is nit picked to death like this? The guy could draw the greatest thing ever and people would complain about it. It just seems like the comic fans on the internet have banded together to carry out some personal vendetta against him. If somebody looks at his art and honestly doesn’t like it, as you seem to have done, that is totally cool. It’s the people with some bizarre personal hatred of the guy that annoy me.
@JohnVFerrigno I’m sure there are people out there with, as you say, a bizarre personal hatred of Liefeld and his art, but I don’t know where to find them. Most everyone I see are just taking an objective view of his art. Some people like it, more seem not to for what I consider to be very valid reasons.
I couldn’t be more excited about this book.
@JohnVFerrigno —maybe its backlash because he created Deadpool?
