iFlashback! October 29th, 2003

It’s time for iFlashback! A weekly feature in which we take a look at some comics that were on sale nine years ago. Why nine years and not ten? Well because our Mondays in 2012 sync up with the Wednesdays of 2003.

So jog down memory lane with me. The date is October 29th, 2003. The number one film at the box office is Scary Movie 3 and these are some of the comics at your local comic book shop.

That was the week that was in comics. A bit of a light week. That Secret Files issue had a Donna Troy story that helped add some closure to her death in Graduation Day. So, Did you read any of these comics? If you did let us know what you thought of them.

Comments

  1. Loved Queen & Country top series.

    What was ‘Caper’ about?

    • Apparently a Jewish-run organized crime group. Look interesting

    • Caper was about two brothers who grow up to be the Jewish mafia’s go-to guys and naturally things start going sour. It was great although to be honest, I only read Daltymple’s arc; beautiful stuff. I think the second part of the arc took place in old school Hollywood or something.

    • There were three arcs, that told three distinct “capers.” The first one was the Jewish Mafia, then Old Hollywood, and then finally two dudes that get the wrong lunchbox and the one they get has an organ in it.

  2. Ugh, Switch and Venom. Wish I could forget these two existed. Never heard of Caper, it looks interesting. Have still never picked up Queen & Country.

  3. Just Venom. What a weird series that was. I liked the art though.

  4. Fantastic Legion phase. It was one of my favourite books during that Abnett and Lanning era.

Kon-El had just been time-displaced and was their Superboy. Good stuff.

  5. Woahhhh fugly Iron Man on the cover of The Avengers! I guess I’m too used to the super hi-tech suits! 0_o

  6. Loved JLA 89! We saw Plastic Man as a father who tried to put superheroing behind him. I really hope he makes a comeback in the New52 soon…

  7. The comics that got my attention this week were Catwoman #24 from Ed Brubaker, Guy Davis & Cameron Stewart and Empire #4 from Mark Waid & Barry Kitson.

  8. Can’t go wrong with Plastic Man. Where the hell is he anyways in this new 52? Also, I didn’t realize Daniel Way and Paco Medina’s partnership went way back.

Here are some other important events to occur on October 29th:

1929: ‘Black Tuesday’ aka The Stock Market Crash
1956: The Suez Crisis, where Israel invaded Egypt, begins.
