iFanboy at Image Expo!

This coming weekend (February 24-26), the first ever Image Expo comes to Oakland, California and iFanboy will be there! The celebration of both Image Comics and independent comics promises to be an interesting weekend for comics fans with tons of top notch comics creators appearing, as well as some of the industry’s leading publishers of independent and creator owned comics.

As the local SF Bay Area resident, I (Ron) will be in attendance, working the con floor, interviewing creators and talking to folks. If you’re attending the convention, please come say hi!  If you would like to be sure to see me as well as the other iFanboy crew in attendance, here’s the details on where you can find us:

PANEL:

Saturday, February 25, 2012 – 1 PM

I’m incredibly excited to announce that I’ll be moderating the below panel, featuring the Image Comics founders. It’s an honor to share the stage with these ground breaking comics creators who changed the landscape of comics 20 years ago. Here’s the full details:

Twenty Years of Independence: The Image Comics 20th Anniversary Panel
Twenty years ago, a group of young artists left their work-for-hire jobs to forge their own path in comics. The result was Image Comics, a publisher dedicated to creators’ individual visions and a champion of creative ownership. The Image Comics partners and some of the original founders now come together to talk about that momentous meeting of minds and talent.

Panelists: Robert Kirkman, Erik Larsen, Rob Liefeld, Todd McFarlane, Whilce Portacio, Marc Silvestri, and Jim Valentino

Moderator: Ron Richards

PARTY:

We’re excited to be teaming up with Image Comics and the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund to present the official Image Expo Welcome Party! Kick off the con in style with a fun night out in Oakland, with live music and DJs and rub elbows with some of the biggest comic book creators appearing at the con, including Robert Kirkman, Jonathan Hickman, Brian K. Vaughan, Blair Butler and more!

Comments

  1. Are we going to get an ifanboy Image Expo video??

  2. Very excited to be attending this weekend. Are you the sole representative of the iFanboy crew there this weekend, Ron, or will we get cameos from some of the others?

  3. I will do something I rarely do, BART over to Oakland, to partake in this. I hope everyone appreciates me for leaving my cozy nest in SF for a day. I am a man of comforts. Bourbon, and comforts.

  4. I’ll be at the Con all 3 days, most likely. will try to attend the party.

  5. Can’t wait for this, Ron is a terrific interviewer, asks great questions and you can tell it is coming from a real fan’s curiosity so it is all very natural. Looking forward to it!

  6. Is iFanboy going to be at Wondercon?

  7. Ron, will you solve the mystery of the Blck Invincible while you’re there? Please?

  8. Really wish I could attend this.

  9. Wow, one more reason for me to be really stoked about Image Expo. I’ll be looking out for the IFanboy Crew!

  10. Uggghh!!! I wish I had planned this an was going, Image Expo, ifanboy and Cali. Should be cool. I still got Detroit! Lol, hey but its home.

  11. When did Blair Butler become big? I like her and all but that’s a stretch!

  12. leifeld! leifeld! leifeld!

come on down to the oakland county fairgrounds for the imageexpo and monster truck rally!

    it’s gonna be in-saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaane!!!!

    • Well, that was insightful.

I get that all most people can do online is snark, but I think it’s cool that someone is at least attempting to fill the void left by WonderCon’s move to SoCal.

  13. Will iFanboy have a table at ImageExpo or do any events/meet ups on Saturday?

  14. I’m really excited! For all I care, I prefer this to Wondercon. I just wish it was in San Francisco. Hope to see some of the iFanboy crew and meet up with other iFanboy peeps.

    • Will try to make the party tomorrow, Ron’s panel (that’s right it’s Ron’s panel, not the creators!), and the Cartoon Art museum thing tonight.
