If the movie didn’t do it for you, how about GREEN LANTERN: THE ANIMATED SERIES?

Hoping to build on the presumed momentum of the live action film, DC Entertainment put a Green Lantern cartoon in motion set to debut later this year. Here's the first official promo:

And this is how the Cartoon Network described the show back in March:

"Based upon the DC Comics super hero, the series is an all-new CG animated action series from Warner Bros.  As Earth’s Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is used to being in dangerous situations—but he’s never faced anything like this!  Set at the farthest reaches of deep space, Hal must face down an invasion from the Red Lantern Corps.  Hal is soon joined by an all-new group of heroes on a mission to protect Guardian Space —and the Green Lantern Corps itself!"

Got a weird retro vibe…looks interesting I guess. hope kids like it.

  2. richardbrady richardbrady says:

i’m just hoping the butt-ugly martians have a cameo

  3. Woomer Woomer says:

I… I don’t know. I’m still interested, but this promo didn’t do very much to make me excited. But, hey, Salaak!

  4. flakbait flakbait says:

Looks fun. I wonder at their use of Red Lanterns, though…are they still going to be vomiting powered blood all over the place on a kid’s show?

  5. I AM SO SICK OF THIS EFFING OATH.

  6. hakaider hakaider says:

@ResurrectionFlan Then probably stop clicking on marketing stuff related to Green Lantern.

  7. MisterJ says:

Here’s hoping to more continued success from WB’s animated superhero department!

  8. Simon Simon says:

Let’s hope this repeats the clone wars effect. Crappy movies, excelent series.

  9. player1 player1 says:

    Looks cool.

  10. ctrosejr ctrosejr says:

    @ResurrectionFlan  I hear that!

I am less than enthused about this.  While my enjoyment will ultimately come down to the voice acting and the quality of the writing, my initial impression is that it looks like a cheesy version of the Incredibles.  I am not terribly impressed from the visuals, to be honest.

  11. SteenAR SteenAR says:

I’m keeping my expectation VERY low for this. It could be really good if they tell the recent stories well but I read an article that said they’re going to use vehicles to travel through space… Doesn’t that kind of undermine the power of the rings? We’ll see though… this could just be me being a nit-picky Green Lantern fanboy…

  12. edward edward says:

Looks pretty shit…. but i’m not a ten year old either

  13. LucasEwalt says:

Ugh… May be good for the little kids, but I’m going to have to pass on this.

  14. WHATTHEDAST WHATTHEDAST says:

Why does every cartoon now have to be a bad attempt at a pixar movie?

  15. kennyg kennyg says:

I’ll watch it, could be good. Years ago, I thought they should have made a “Tales of the Green Lantern Corps” show, so hopefully this will highlight other lanterns besides just Hal. It would make sense to do so, since they could sell more merchandise that way. The stories could be from the Book of Oa or something.

  16. azrael1213 azrael1213 says:

I’ll watch it. It has a Cartoon Network Clone Wars vibe to it.

    I can dig it.

  17. Dimebag71 Dimebag71 says:

Looks interesting….I’ll give it a shot!!

  18. Crucio Crucio says:

Not a fan of the look. Could be good though. What would make it great for me, would be a 3 minute short at the end of each episode in a “Tales of the Corps” style. I love seeing the backgrounds of different corp members.

  19. ericwilder ericwilder says:

That looks great. And, to put my 2 cents in, I thought the movie was GREAT!

  20. not too much to go on, but i think something like GL could work really well in animated form. I’d prefer that Bruce Tim style instead of the 3d glossy plastic shading that seems to be the rage cartoons these days.

  21. Tork Tork says:

    CG? Aw…

  22. mrfrost mrfrost says:

At first, I liked the idea of a Green Lantern show, but that CG des not look good. I guess i might check the first episode out though.

  23. Yeah, I’m IN.

  24. y2kkev y2kkev says:

Isn’t  that an old trailer from the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon?

  25. IroncladMerc says:

It looks better than that recent “Batman” cartoon that had a comedian doing Batman’s voice.

This looks like a cross between the Incredibles and Clone Wars style of 3d animation, I’m on board!

  26. @hakaider  I am just saying, it’s approaching Great Power Great – can’t even type the rest,- levels of overuse and self parody. It was fine when you bust it out at the end of an arc when GL is beating someone down and each punch and hit per panel is accompanied by a line.

I remember that being used effectively, but they really need to cool it.

I think since Johns has taken over he’s tried to MAKE it into DC’s version of Uncle Ben’s speech. But it just sounds BAD when you say it aloud and especially when you say it EVERY SINGLE ISSUE. It’s like fetch, it’s never gonna happen dude.

  27. @IroncladMerc  Don’t knock Batman Brave and the Bold, that show is rock solid! Season 2 and 3 are amazing. The new ones are seriously knocking it out of the park, especially the Superman episode featuring SuperDickery!!!!!

  28. FoeApple FoeApple says:

It has the potential to be pretty awesome.

  29. THX7168 THX7168 says:

do not like the animation style at all, why didn’t they go with the classic look like the Young Justice series recently?

  30. 1aurien 1aurien says:

The look doesn’t work for me at all. Way too fluffy and cute-looking for my taste. I may have to pass.

  31. MadMerc MadMerc says:

Maybe DC should stick to the animated stuff.

  32. Bluestreak says:

The CG animation doesn’t look as good as the Clone Wars but I’ll give anything Bruce Timm does a try

  33. Apotheosize Apotheosize says:

Sigh….the CG looks like Jimmy Neutron

  34. xoman xoman says:

I agree, looks like crap. DO NOT WANT!!!

  35. @ResurrectionFlan  Me too. it’s got a kind of weird, brainwashed cultish vibe to it. The Guardians of the Galaxy can’t create a ring that doesn’t need to have you say some poorly written pledge of allegiance to make it work? Creepy.

  36. God, I hate all things lantern.

  37. UncleBob UncleBob says:

farthest reaches of deep space…. sounds good!
and in terms of animation style/quality, for me it’s like comics…..  as long as the stories are good…
