Heads Up: Image Comics Previews – August 2012

Being a comic fan can be tough. With so many publishers printing more and more books, canceling titles and starting new ones, it can be daunting when you head to the comic book shop on a Wednesday to know exactly what’s coming out.

The current system of presenting and ordering comics three months ahead of their release as set forth by the sole comics distributor, Diamond Comics, doesn’t make it any easier either. We’re not a fan of that system, we think it’s slowly strangling comics to death, but we realize it’s a harsh reality of how the industry works and we definitely don’t want you to miss out on any of the cool comics being published.

And so, as opposed to regurgitating the list of comics solicited in Previews each month, we present to you some of the highlights of things you probably won’t want to miss out on.

SPOILER WARNING in order to get people to order comics, the publishers have a funny habit of revealing what’s happening in the books. If you don’t want anything at all to be spoiled, then you’ll probably want to skip this post and take your chances with your pre-orders and/or your shopping.

Comments

  1. Avatar photo Jeff Reid (@JeffRReid) says:

Very much looking forward to reading more Prophet. I read the first issue and then held off for the trade. Looks great. Ditto for Manhattan Projects.

  2. Yeah, I’ll be getting the Prophet tpb as well.

  3. Manhattan Projects and Saga will both be purchased! Loving both those series!

  4. Bring on more of The Manhattan Projects, so getting the Prophet & Glory Trades, hopefully Sagas will follow in September!

  5. All good stuff!!!

  6. I’ll also be picking up Mahattan Project and Prophet in trade. Glad to see these series are doing well enough to put one out as I’ve been looking forward to reading them.

  7. Words can’t express how much I have been enjoying Prophet. I did not expect it to be this good.

  8. Loving Saga and Glory right now, really interested in Prophet and since it wasn’t on my radar until it was 20 issues in, I’ll either jump on that 1st trade or wait for a bigger collected edition like they’re about to do with Fear Agent right after I got all 6 tpb’s. Savage Dragon/Larsen are super impressive giving its one of Image’s founding and flagship titles but that its been done solo by Larsen (sure he’s got help here and there, but are we gonna split hairs?) since the beginning of Image and seems to have gotten better with time, I really think Savage Dragon deserves an Ultimate/Absolute/Omnibus edition asap. Glory has been a refreshing surprise. I want Debris tpb when its done and have to check out Atomics anything.

  9. If Saga and Prophet are any indication of the creativity and hard work put into creator-owned comics then I will pull them until they end. I am very glad to have gotten into creator owned books at a time like this. I will be pulling Planetoid and Debris. That Glory TPB looks very tempting!

Is there any news of Danger Club?

  10. That Saga cover is … Breathtaking. Awesome. Beautiful.

  11. Saga & Manhattan Projects are just killing it so far & Fatale (my intro to digital) is so good it hurts. I’ll be getting that Prophet trade just on the strength of the examples I’ve seen on this site & that lettering book looks really interesting. Image are just in a class of their own at the moment.

  12. That Savage Dragon cover is terrific.
