From Ultimate Marvel Team-Up #13 (2002)

The Ultimate Marvel Team-Up series launched just a few months after Ultimate Spider-Man made its debut in 2000. It was a way for the newly established Ultimate Universe to become more fleshed out as Spider-Man interacted with its various characters. For the first time, the Ultimate versions of the Punisher, Sabretooth, Iron Man, and others were presented to readers. This series was also a way for Brian Michael Bendis to work with a variety of spectacular artists. Mike Allred, Matt Wagner, and Terry Moore all did work on various issues. In issues #12 and #13, Ted McKeever did the art on a meeting between Ultimate Spider-Man and Dr. Strange.

Spider-Man, having had his mind taken over by an evil magician, attacked Dr. Strange in his Sanctum Sanctorum. In self defense, the good doctor sent Spider-Man spiraling into another dimension. This page, which features the dimension stretching and emaciating the young Peter Parker, shows off McKeever’s strengths wonderfully. Its heavy lines and deformed character work contrast nicely with the bright spider symbol in the background. It’s a page you just want to stop and stare at.
