Great Moments in Comics History: B.P.R.D.: The Dead #1

I don't know where it ranks on the Strangest First Day at Work Scale, but walking into the break room and meeting your naked homunculus co-worker who has a block of wood with a ring attached where his genitals should be probably ranks up there pretty high.

    I miss Roger

  2. stuclach stuclach says:

Wait… Having a ring down there ISN’T normal?  I have to go see a doctor.

  3. WeaklyRoll WeaklyRoll says:

@Stuclach, I think it’s only a problem if you only have a ring, not a ring and, well you know.

Is the next panel the guy looking at Roger’s ring?

  4. mikeandzod21 mikeandzod21 says:

    He’s got ring envy

  5. stuclach stuclach says:

@WeaklyRoll  Now I’m even more confused.

  6. mmyoung mmyoung says:

My favorite part of that bit is the payoff: Daimio demands that Roger puts on some pants.  Turns out the whole “block of wood with a ring through it” is even more disturbing with pants on.

  7. Wait, so this means Conor’s finally reading BPRD?

  8. Grandturk says:

@mmyoung  Yes!  That was the best payoff.

I’m just working back through my Hellboy trades… up to Conquerer Worm now.  I would have loved to see more Roger & Lobster Johnson team-up action.

  9. I am sooo looking forward to the new BPRD hardcovers next year.

  10. Talk about sporting wood in the breakroom!

Am I right or am I right?

I’m not sure if this has been mentioned before, but I had the opportunity to listen in on a conversation between Mignola and Steve Niles at the Long Beach Comic Con back in October. Mignola told Niles a story about Roger the Homonculus. How he was his favorite character, but that he had to kill him off because he was essentially a naked character. He made a remark on how Guy Davis drew him, and there were panels they had to censor because it’d be just a shot of Roger’s butt. That’s when they decided to give him pants, which Mignola felt didn’t work at all, so he killed the character off.

@vinh  I can’t believe it. That is the reason why they killed Roger! He was and still is my favorite character. That seems like such an idiotic reason. At least they made his death mean something and aren’t gonna resurrect him(I hope).
