Flashpoint #5 Will Be the Only DC Book Shipping on August 31

If you're a hardcore DC reader, you can budget 4 bucks for the week of August 31. That's it. Flashpoint #5 will be the only book the publisher ships that week. Why?

DC says, "Because of its impact on the DC Universe, FLASHPOINT #5 is the only title that DC Comics is currently soliciting to arrive in stores on August 31."

Are big things afoot? Me? I'm just glad Aquaman is finally allowed to be the jerk he always wanted to be.

Note: This is the cover to Flashpoint #4

  1. Hmm. Interesting move. I wonder if there’s more forces at play here than just “story and plot”.

  2. hmmmmm……marketers….how I despise you.

  3. wow! thats an interesting concept. Is marvel going to announce their .2 initiative that will ship that week for all their books? =p

  4. Well for a guy that isn’t picking up ANY of the books for Flashpoint then it’ll be a light week on August 31st.

  5. Sweet!  Now I can dig into some more good indie stuff.

  6. currently soliciting”

They wouldn’t halt the entire publishing line for an event taking place only in brand new, self-contained mini-series.

I guess I’m a little interested to see where they take this. Flashpoint #1 couldn’t have been much worse, so only way is up … right?

  7. drawing the line at ONE comic

  8. There are 5 weeks in August so this isn’t as gigantic a scale back “hit” for DC as it would seem.  I actually commend DC for making this announcement seem grander than it is.

    the Tiki

  9. Will iFanboy have a site change for that issue as well?

  10. Probability this will actually happen: 0%

You know things are going to get behind and moved around between now and then.

  11. It just means that the four weeks leading up to the fifth week will be big.  Either that or the first week of September will be a bitch.  Either way, it’s a cool ploy to try and get people interested.  Hopefully, it pays off.

  12. I think the bigger story is that DC want this 5-issue event to be out and done in 4 months. Personally, I’m still undecided on the book. I liked the 1st issue and I’m quite curious. Being a Batman fan, it gave a lot of the spotlight to the area of the DCU that I like the most. I have a feeling that the Bat mini could be a strong seller, maybe even as strong as the event itself.

  13. I now want to see the Kitty Pryde Professor X is a jerk image but replace Professor X with Aquaman. Thanks Josh. (not sarcasm)

  14. @drake: Ha!

  15. @thefreakytiki  Good point.

  16. @RolandofGilead.  I agree.  100 BatBullets is the only Flashpoint title I specifiaclly preordered.

I figure the others could be gametime decisions at the store. And frankly I decided against FP1 and have no regrets as of yet.  (and if I really need a copy I’m sure I won’t have a problem getting one in a couple of weeks)

  17. haha. It would be awesome it it were late…;)

  18. I wonder if this means DC’s rule of ‘we’re not talking about anything until after Flashpoint’ will still be in effect for SDCC. Their panels at C2E2 and WonderCon were very sparce and if they’re not releasing any other books August 31 of the impact FLASHPOINT #5 will have on them, I’m thinking their presence at San Diego will be kinda lackluster as well.

Also, I’m not sure how (or if) it coincides with other books, but August is when the JMS-initiated ‘Odessey’ arc of WONDER WOMAN is set to end. it’s sounding like Flashpoint is going to be a big fat reset button.

  19. @wonderali Makes sense, since there was that image of Dianna on the Screen in the 25th century.

  20. @TheNextChampion: It’ll also be a light week for EVERYONE ELSE, seeing as how there’s only one DC title shipping.

  21. Nice way to create incentive for buying the Flashpoint tie ins. Not gonna fall for it though. Nice try though.

  22. Yeah, what @thefreakytiki said. Not a huge deal, given that it’s a fifth week, and those are generally lighter anyway. But Ali alludes to something interesting… that DC is still not talking about what’s AFTER Flashpoint. So having it all bottleneck at the end of August with a final Flashpoint issue… could mean that big changes are coming in September…

  23. @drakedangerz: Don’t you work for IGN?

  24. I think it’s a cool idea, makes the issue seem more special.  I’m curious what kind of change it will actually be.

  25. I would have more faith this will actually happen if it wasn’t for the fact we I think haven’t had a company wide crossover since Civil War happen without a main book being delayed.

What about the retailers? Even if all other books are just moved to before and after this date it still screws their cash flow.

And if you pack the rest of the weeks with books that should have been spread out won’t people on a budget end up spending less?

@drake if that was meant in as much bad taste as it came off at least ifanboy only changes their site every once in awhile and doesn’t have constant and intrusive advertisements unless you pay for the premium service. I like IGN man but glass houses etc. etc. etc.
I will also say even with the site advertisements and ads in DC books I have not noticed any change in the editorial content. I think it was just last week one of the guys talked about how DC was letting them down. Good job having inegrity guys! Much appreciated!

  26. line wide Crisis style reboot

  27. I do hope it’s a reboot. Apart from a few core books, DC needs a lot of tailoring right now. For Example: http://www.ifanboy.com/comics/dc_comics/iMAR110332/titans/35

  28. It’s just a fifth week, right? So it’s not too crazy?

  29. It’s gonna feel weird on August 31st to leave the shop with no DC books.

  30. Oh no Flash is being attacked by Aquaman and The Black Knight!

    Wait- Wonder Woman

DC should just sell WW to Marvel- maybe they can do something interesting with her.

  31. No way that could go wrong, right? Andy Kubert never misses deadlines. Guys? Right?

  32. They’re clearly trying to stack the odds in favor of Flashpoint 5 being pick of the week, that week. It’s all about iFanboy and the POTW.

  33. This sounds like a Marvel stunt.  “When fear Itself 7 hits, all the other books will be to scared to make it to the shelves!”

  34. wow

  35. @Parker
Pretty sure drake’s only suggesting that ifanboy could change the website to coincide with the whole alternate universe feel of flashpoint (like how fringe changes their intro titles every now and then, or google does those wacky changes).
Who wouldn’t want to see Jock Flanagan, Ronaldo Richards and Hunter Kilpatrick!

  36. The only difference is they have scars and goatees. And are evil.

  37. @Matrix  iFanboy now ran by the Totally Rad Show guys

  38. I messed up. It should have been ‘and Conor Kilpatrick. Sober.’.
