FIRST LOOK: David Morrissey as The Governor on ‘The Walking Dead’

TV Guide (yes, it still exists), has your first look at the big bad for season 3 of AMC’s The Walking Dead: The Governor.

Yes, it’s basically a dude–in this case British actor David Morrissey–in some clothes. But what’s interesting is what’s not there. In what might be a first for the series, they didn’t try to make him look like the character from the comics–he is sans the comic book Governor’s long hair and fu manchu. So far, the producers have done a fairly good job of recreating the look of the characters from the book. Interesting that they didn’t go in that direction here. Then again, if I was David Morrissey, I probably wouldn’t want to spend the summer in Georgia in a wig and fake facial hair.

Comments

  1. EXCITING! wish he’d kept the greasy long hair though

  2. I like the idea that apparently the governor has stockpiled hairspray so he can always keep that coif.

    • My hair basically does this if I haven’t shampooed it for a week. How do I know this? We are moving, & I haven’t had shampoo for a week.

  3. As a beared long haired metal warrior, this offends me on some level. But still, pumped.

  4. my brain initially read this as morrissey from the smiths. thusly, i am disappointed with the picture.

  5. fu man chu?

  6. I hope his characterization at least is consistent with the comic

  7. David Morrissey is a really good actor and I think he’ll do great in the role, but I think he will be different than the Governor from the comics. In my opinon though this is a good thing because if you played the Governor just like he was in the comic it would be too much for the realistic live action world they have created.

    • Yeah, dude definitely looks capable & dangerous, in a more real-world sense, from that picture. He looks like he could be a ruthless leader. I’m digging this choice.

  8. Should have gotten Danny Trejo to play the governor now that would have been bad ass

  9. So much about that show disappoints me that I can’t even care anymore . Even the Gov. in all his evil glory can’t save it for me .

    • agreed. i mean i’ll still watch it and all, but objectively speaking this show is pretty fucking awful.

  10. I’m guessing, since they really want to build The Governor up as a major antagonist, they want to give him the same kind of physical build and qualities you’d find in Rick. So they’re tossing out the unkempt look to make him appear more reasonable and trustworthy, which’ll only make his ruthless behavior that much more disturbing.

I want to see Morrissey play up his Britishness and be The Guvnah.
