FIRST LOOK: Covers & Solicits For Month Three of THE EDGE From DC Comics

DC’s gone and released the solicit information for the third issues of their Edge titles, and you can get them here first. As these are for the third issues of the respective titles, there’s a good chance they’re a little spoiler-y, since you can’t have read what comes before. But either way, it’s a good chance to get a look at some of the sweet covers coming up. But be careful, it’s edgy down there. Sooooo edgy.

Very seriously, out of all the DC books coming out, this is the group that, however named is most up my alley. From Jonah Hex in All-Star Western, to Voodoo, to Men of War (which doesn’t seem to refer to Sgt. Rock anymore), to Blackhawks, there’s all sorts of fun alternatives to traditional superhero comics in here.

Comments

  1. i will get grifter and voodoo

  2. Jordi Bernet is on All-Star Western!!!

  3. I feel like I should have read the first issue before I know what issue three is about.

    • Agreed. Imagine how difficult this is for store owners. Well I guess if they order too low and say O.M.A.C is the break-through hit of the relaunch they can just direct readers to the digital version.

As a digital reader though – I don’t need these announcements to know whether or not I will buy issue #3. I’ll be sold if the content in issues 1 & 2 are good. This makes me wonder if solicits will evolve a bit too.

    • Avatar photo josh (@jaflanagan) says:

That’s kind of the nature of the comics distribution system.

    • Right on, Josh. I’m just wondering aloud if it will continue to be that way should a majority of readers get their comics digitally.

I guess I’m also wondering how comic sites like iFanboy approach these sorts of announcements. Do you feel that these solicits are legitimate news and thus ‘obligated’ to report on it? Or is it a catch as catch can – site X just posted on it so we should to?

    • But in most cases, we WILL have read issue #1 by the time Issue #3’s initial orders have to be in.

  4. Yet again Jordi Bernet is doing another issue of All-Star Western. People complaining about him not being there before the full details must feel pretty stupid. Also, the fact that it’s the first drive by shooting in Gotham makes it exciting for me.

Also, also: “King Shark eats a guy”…..Can’t argue with that.

  5. i don’t know why but voodoo reminds me of dren from splice

  6. That Sgt Rock cover is pretty damn rad

    • I agree. I’m definitely picking this up. Haven’t had a good modern war comic in recent memory.

    • the cover artist has been doing an amazing job with his Image book, Blue Estate, which he writes, does some interior pages, and does the covers. I have been loving that book.

  7. So far Blackhawks has had a different artist solicited for each issue. Wonder if that’s there plan or just poor planning.

  8. I think I’m going to pick up Blackhawks. Something about seems interesting and fun. May even pick up Grifter too.

  9. What is deathstroke wearing?!?! Please let that not be a new normal costume. The story is going to have to be a 10 to keep me reading with that design. It would be just too distracting. Ugh.

On the other hand, Suicide Squad looks promising.

  10. Deathstroke and Suicide Squad are locks for me. Will probably pick up All-Star Western based on how well Jonah Hex is liked around these parts.

  11. This confirms Voodoo and Grifter as maybes for me so I’ll try the 1st issue of both but probs only continue if they blow me away as my list is a little too long to be affordable atm. Also wondering how come Stormwatch isnt here since DC called that an ‘edge’ title too.

  12. I’m not entirely sure why, but I’m actually looking forward to Grifter. I know virtually nothing about the character.

  13. what is THE EDGE? is this a sub genre of the new DC52 thing?

The more these announcements come out, the more i’m feeling overwhelmed with the sheer quantity of new stuff coming in a condensed time frame.I dunno if i have the time/energy/willpower to figure out what to try and read all these books. Flashpoint and the tie ins already kinda wore me out.

Its like when i was a kid, and i forgot to do the homework, and i had no idea what was going on in class the next day.

  14. OMG Simon Bisley…amazing.

  15. Avatar photo PaulMontgomery (@fuzzytypewriter) says:

Blackhawks is one of my darkhorse picks for the relaunch. I’m afraid it may get lost in the shuffle but it looks like it could be a fun title. GI Joe in the DCU.

  16. I’m really hoping Men of War will be a great book. DC used to publish a lot of war stories during and post Vietnam. There have been a number of movies now based on the current war in Irag and Afghanistan, but not a whole lot of comics to my knowledge. I’m definitely curious to read some stories in this setting.

  17. I’m really looking forward to All-Star Western. Jonah Hex was one of my favorite reads and I’m excited to see what Palmiotti and Gray do with the other DC western characters.

  18. Sgt. Rock is the only one I care about right now. Unfortunately most of this group will not last long unless DC really does plan to give these titles a chance.

  19. I should say Men of War!!!

  20. Still looking forward to Voodoo. Some of these other titles look really cool, but I can’t afford ’em all and I barely have time to read what I buy now. Who am I kidding? I don’t have time. Maybe I’ll catch up when I retire.

  21. That Grifter cover is definitely eye candy.
