FanExpo 2012: Ramon Perez Joins WOLVERINE & THE X-MEN in 2013

During it’s special X-Men panel at Toronto’s FanExpo, Marvel announced that artist Ramon Perez will join the creative team behind Wolverine & The X-Men as of January 2013. The Eisner award winning artist of Jim Henson’s Tale of Sand and Marvel’s own John Carter: The Gods of Mars mini-series has pencilled a number of one-shots and limited series for Marvel over the years, but this will be his first ongoing for the publisher.

Wolverine & The X-Men #20 cover by Nick Bradshaw

Here’s a look at what Jason Aaron and Ramon Perez have in store for Logan and the Snikt Society come 2013 with some of Perez’s pencils on issue #25:

And the inks…

Perez has definitely made his mark this year, and we think his expressive, often whimsical style will be a great fit for one of Marvel’s most entertaining series.

  1. Sweet Jesus!!!!!!!

  2. NICE!!

I wonder if this means he’ll be included in the rotation (stretching it from two artists to three), replacing one of the pencillers in the rotation, or replacing both of them as the lone penciller on the title. Personally, I’d prefer to have him replace Bradshaw and rotate with Bachalo, but I’d be perfectly content if he became the one and only penciller (provided he can keep up with the schedule). He’s a wonderful artist.

  3. I love Bradshaw and Bachalo, and from what I’ve seen of Perez I’m digging him. The main focus of this book tends to be Aaron’s writing, but damn if he doesn’t get some amazing artists to back him up.

  4. This is exciting.

  5. It really was just a matter of time until he ended up on a top book. Well done kiddo:)

  6. I’m going to cry…just a little bit

  7. So is Josh gonna start reading W&XM ?

  8. Good for him. He worked his butt off to do Tales of Sand and John Carter and now he’s going to get a much wider audience to look at his work. Although I can’t say this will sway me to buy the series. I tried the first trade and it wasn’t doing it for me aside from the great art by Bachelo.

  9. My favorite news of the year might be Storm joining the Wolverine and the X-men cast. Better late then never! That type of book is exactly what that character needs. She needs to be in the loft of the Mansion watering her plants with tiny rain clouds. Bradshaw even has her lock picking on the cover of #20. Jason Aaron gets me.

  10. In the panel they said it will be a 5 issue arc and will take place in the savage land.

Very excited for this. Perez will be a great fit.

  11. Oh wow, this looks amazing.

  12. This is going to be great, I’m really looking forward to it. And this is a great book for Storm to be a part of too.

  13. YES!

  14. Frankly, I be happy if he became the only person to pencil Wolverine & The X-Men. Jason Aaron’s stories are great, it’s the art that brings the book down.

  15. WOWWWW! That’s some good news right there.

  16. Tale of Sand is beautiful, its intriguing to see what he does with a cadre of mutants.

  17. Definitely look forward to reading this.

It’s funny, after Schism I was more excited about the other side of X-Men, but with what we’ll have lined up for them after AvX, this will be the X-Men for me for quite a while. Hopefully this book with Aaron keeps doing its thing for years, though tough to pull off without Marvel shaking it up. Keep it rockin

  18. THIS is the secret project he spoke to Josh about?! SWEET CHRISTMAS!!!! My chocolate just met peanut butter!!!! YES! YES! YES!

  19. Nice! This is great news!

  20. Stupid question time, but did Ramon Perez do art for the RIFTS RPG books from Palladium Press? Because if this is the same person, he’s been around for a while. I really like that cover image – it’s busy, but it fits the nature of the book so well.

    • Never mind, a quick look at his CV on his website confirmed my suspicions. This is very different from what he was doing back then though – his RIFTS work was very scratchy and gritty, would not have looked out of place in an issue of DMZ. Even more interested now.

  21. I love this book, I really hope we don’t lose Bradshaw…am excited to see more from Perez after the iFanboy’s praise.

  22. This is great news!

So going by that inked image, it looks like Angel (Morrison’s Angel) is going to be at the school soon, but who’s the girl between her and Quentin Quire on the cell phone? The one with the headband? Does she become the Shark in the background image?

  23. Must get book for anyone not already reading it who loves art.

I recently read an old 3 issue arc Perez did on JSA: Classified. It was a Wildcat story written by B. Clay Moore. Slightly different style of where Perez is now. But still very nice to look at.

  24. Jeez…THREE amazing artists on one book.
