EXCLUSIVE! Boston Comic Con – Teenage Satan Revealed

The past couple weeks we’ve gotten hints and clues and teases about something called Teenage Satan. The buzz has reached a fever pitch and now the hellish wait is finally over! Announced this afternoon at Boston Comic Con, Teenage Satan is the new and awesomely unique multi-media comic project from Stephanie Buscema, Candis Cooke, and Marsha Cooke.

High school was tough enough, now imagine you’re a freshman at Hades High and your dad is the Prince of Darkness (and your mom is a real Jezebel). Teenage Satan follows the misadventures of Luc, as he tries to survive high school, learn the “family business” and win the heart of Mary, the girl next door. Full of hellish teen drama, Mary has a douchey boyfriend Joey, her cousin Beth is pregnant, and it's quite possible Luc's best friend Gabe was sent to kill him. If you've spent any time in Catholic school, these characters will seem very familiar.

So that’s what it’s about, but it still doesn’t really explain what Teenage Satan is. In a nutshell, it’s an app, a comic, and a game. Instead of just getting a new comic each week, you also get games, playlists, pin-ups, and glimpses into each of the character’s journals. So there’s cool, new stuff every day of the week. It’s available on your computer, your smartphone, even your fancy-pants iPad. All the content was designed with touch screens and mobile technology in mind, and it promises to be a hell of a lot of fun.

These very clever ladies have really embraced technology to take comics to the next level. Being curious folk, we did some digging around on the trio to see if we could find any dirt.

Jimmy Palmiotti on Marsha Cooke: “Most of the time people don’ t believe me when I tell them a story about her. It gets a bit frustrating at times being called a boldface liar, but this will happen no more. That psycho bitch is branching out on her own and finally putting pen to paper…Now all those who didn’t believe me can read for themselves that yes, it is all true…which reminds me about the story of Marsha and the cop on a highway in South Carolina…”

Steve Niles on Stephanie Buscema: "The wonderful thing about Stephanie is she as fast with the brush as she is with a switchblade. That Sister will cut you! Don't let the cute art fool you. That women's in league with the DEVIL!”

James Robinson on Candis Cooke: "Candis Cooke is a fantastic writer but a vile, evil human being. She invited me to Tijuana for a night of drinking, then skipped back over the border with my pants, wallet, drivers license and car keys. She then sold my car, traded my license for some Oxy and ran up 100Gs of debt on my credit cards. Honestly I hate the bitch, but she's a damn fine writer."

So… if you weren't already thinking of checking out Teenage Satan, I'm sure these ladies have means of making you check it out!

Teenage Satan kicks off September 5, 2011 and runs to the end of 2012 (unless the Mayans were right, in which case we’ll all be living Teenage Satan).  Get to TeenageSatan.com for updates, art, and more.

Hells yeah!

UPDATE – Can't wait til September? Check out the trailer with animation by Darwyn Cooke:

  1. I definitely like the art style for this com-, gam-, whatever the heck it is rolled into one.

But are the games and such linked to the comic as in progressing the story? Or is it all supplementary material?

  2. CromsFury says:

That’s all explained in the article on Unwinnable…http://bit.ly/kY5vQO

  3. AlanRob AlanRob says:

Do we know if they are develpoing exclusively for Apple or are Android users going to be able to get in on the fun?

  4. AlanRob AlanRob says:

Nevermind! That info is in @Cromsfury’s posted link as well.

  5. I think a lot more comics in the future are going to go this route, becoming more of a multimedia conglomerate of entertainment than just words and pictures on a page. Seems like it’s the way the industry will try to adapt to changing times and shrinking fan base.

Great to see the multimedia aspect being looked into. Can’t wait to see it as I’m not sure if its for me until I see more but colour me intrigued

@CromsFury  I guess ‘Exclusive’ has a new meaning now – second to the party, and less informative.

Hmmmm its a real shame that this isn’t out yet. Its a huge project so I guess that’s why.
