‘Chronicle’ Star Dane DeHaan is Your New Harry Osborn in ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’

After a fairly public search for the next Harry Osborn, Marc Webb has just announced via Twitter that Dane DeHaan will join the cast of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as the aforementioned son-of-a-goblin.

That’s a terrible photo by the way. It seems to misrepresent DeHaan as approachable and cuddly. He should’ve posted this one:

You may remember Dane DeHaan as the SUV-slinging Andrew Detmer in Josh Trank’s found footage superhero flick Chronicle. You may know him as limping moonshine mastermind Cricket from Lawless. Or perhaps you know him as one of the starstruck Union soldiers who recited the Gettysburg Address to the president in the opening of last month’s Lincoln. Even if you missed him at the movie theater, you still could’ve seen DeHaan devouring the scenery on TV in regular appearances on True Blood, In Treatment and, of course, Law & Order SVU.

Quite frankly, I’m a little terrified of Dane DeHaan. But in the right way. He doesn’t so much chew the scenery in Chronicle, as he injects the scenery with a neurotoxin and then lays his eggs in it (They later hatch in your nightmares). He’s great at playing rage, but he’s even better at the stages before when you’re waiting for the kettle to start screaming. DeHaan was my pick of the actors rumored, many of which could’ve fit in well with Garfield and Stone. But none of them quite have the potential for going toe-to-toe with Garfield’s nervous energy. These two should make for a great pair.

Screenrant also confirms that rumored additions Shailene Woodley (The Descendants) and Jamie Foxx (umm, The Jamie Foxx Show, duh) will indeed appear as Mary-Jane Watson and Electro respectively.

Comments

  1. I know there’s piles of cash to be made out there – but really…. ah… pass

  2. Boom! I loved this kid in Chronicle and it’s nice to see him cast as a character i know and love. He’ll do great i feel.

  3. I’ll give him a chance. He was creepy as in Chronicle. Think it should work.

  4. Do we really need Osborn again? I suppose they’re going to kill Gwen in this movie.

  5. I kind of want to jump in on this one. Dehaan was amazing in “Chronicle” and I’m curious to see Jamie Foxx as Electro.

  6. I thought I recognized that solider from Lincoln! Shit, that movie had like every actor known to me in that movie. (Or it felt like it)

But let’s see here: He’s known mainly for a movie where he played an emotional, severely disturbed kid. And Harry Osborn is an emotional, severely disturbed son of Norman Osborn. Sounds perfect casting to me.

  7. I don’t know how I feel about this.

  8. This brings a whole new meaning to the scene in Chronicle where he dismembers that spider….
