Batman Fan Film

Apparently we missed some stuff at the Con. Most notably, clips of a short fan film starring Batman and The Joker. I do know that I walked ALL over the con and I have no idea where this was played.

According to the story on Ain’t It Cool, Alex Ross and Kevin Smith were both raving over the film and how great Batman looked and I do have to admit, the stills look pretty good.

  1. there’s a link on comicbookresources.com

I have to say, it’s neat until…well, it gets real stupid, and I’ll leave it at that.

it’s a shame, cause it could have been really good.

  2. Can you post a link? I couldn’t find it on CBR’s very confusingly organized coverage.

  3. Nevermind, I found it. It’s in this week’s Lying in the Gutters.

  4. Dammit! My Quicktime is missing the appropriate software to download the movie.

    Conor

  5. try it again, I got an error the first time I tried to play it.

  6. It crashed on me with about 20% to go.

It was silly, but it was really well shot, and lit. Impressively so. I didn’t see how it ended though.

Was it the “guests” that you objected to, Nick?

  7. This is the error message that I’ve gotten the three or four times I’ve tried to download the movie:

“Quick Time is missing software to perform this operation. Unfortunately, it is not available on the Quick Time server.”

  8. I just spent three hours downloading the movie off of Kaaza on my dial-up and I got a similar error message when I tried to play it. I don’t have the right compressor, apparently…

    I need a drink.

  9. I got it to work. The look of it is really good. I like some of the shots and the Batman costume. the dialogue between Batman and the Joker is hokey.

And then, as Nick said, it got weird. Way weird.

  10. WOW, it started off kind of like that daredevil film on the net from a while back (french i think) then WOW.

    never saw it coming…

i laughed out loud at first, then just went with it.

    very interesting

  11. I HATE YOU ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Conor

  12. the more I think about it the more it annoys me. Even with the hokey dialogue between Jokey and bats, it’s still pretty good. then they have to ruin what they had going for a stupid fight scene.

    meh

  13. I still haven’t seen it, but is that Boner from GROWING PAINS playing The Joker?

    Conor

  14. The film is all over the file sharing networks (KazaaLite, the Gnutella variants, and BitTorrent)

  15. I finally saw it.

It was interesting, though I had the big “surprise” spoiled beforehand.

The dialogue was no good. But visually, it was quite well done.

    Conor

  16. not much of a surprise, if you ask me…

Speaking of Batman, I’m looking for some good Bat reading. Any reccomendations? Mostly older stuff I suppose cause I’ve read everything new.

I was hoping for tpbs of older runs, but it doesn’t look like they exist.

  17. Nick, you can look through my books, and take anything you haven’t read. It’s not much though. I think Son of the Demon is probably the best bet. There’s also the Greatest Joker stories, but you’ve probably read those.

  18. Nick,

    Great Batman reading…?

    Wow.

How much time do I have?

You are reading GOTHAM CENTRAL, right? I’ll skip over the great runs of the last few years.

    TPBs and One Shots…
    SON OF THE DEMON
    BRIDE OF THE DEMON
    BIRTH OF THE DEMON
    YEAR TWO
    FULL CIRCLE
    BLACK & WHITE
    BLACK & WHITE 2
    DARK VICTORY
    LONG HALLOWEEN
    THE CULT
    HOLY TERROR
    A LONELY PLACE OF DYING
    THE GAUNTLET

    Comics…
Anything with art by Neal Adams or Alan Davis. If I was home I’d be able to tell you more specifically.

    Books…
When the first Batman film came out in 1989, these two softcover short story compilations came out that were quite excellent. I can’t remember their names, and I desperately need to dig them out of whatever box they’re stored in.

    Hope this helps.
