Here is how “Dead To Rights” is described:
Oliver (Stephen Amell) and Diggle (David Ramsey) learn that Deadshot (guest star Michael Rowe) is still alive and his next target is Malcom (John Barrowman). Malcom invites Tommy (Colin Donnell) to attend a benefit honoring Malcom for his work with Starling City but Tommy refuses to attend. Oliver encourages his friend to mend his relationship with his father while he can. Meanwhile, Oliver struggles to balance his new relationship with McKenna (Janina Gavankar) and his duties as Arrow.

HOLY CRAP this episode. 2nd best episode of the season so far after the slade wilson island episode.
Merlin trained in Nanda Parbat where Batman trained there too. and Deadshot was hiding out in Bludhaven. SO MANY EASTER EGGS!
Those easter eggs is what keeps me interested in this show to be honest. Take all those out, and I don’t think I’d be watching this from week to week…. at the same time, I think there’s a part of me hoping all those easter eggs are getting collected into a nice big basket for viewers and fan… i.e. if you joke about Laurel owning a canary, then hopefully we’re going to see a Black Canary in the future. I can wish.
Ollie’s get really loose with secret identity.
Johns writing was excellent in this episode. I agree one of the best yet.
Great episode, probably my favorite one. Also, River Song looks weird with straight hair.

I was surprised by all the love for this episode cause I thought it was one of the weakest so far. Let me lay out my problems with it and maybe somebody can help me out. At the gala why would they attack people inside (after the fire alarm) when the whole point was to lure Merlin outside not tip him off?
If deadshots bullet could shatter bullet proof glass why could it not fully penetrate that bulletproof vest? Furthermore what great sniper wouldn’t get someone in the head?
Also what was up with the blood transfusion thing where’d that come from?
And too many people know his identity in my opinion .
Anyway I loved the two previous episodes before this…. Not sure about next week cause I didn’t care much for the actress who played huntress and I didn’t love there take on the costume .
My ideas on your questions:
1. I assume they ha people on the inside as well as the outside, just in case things didn’t go according to plan. And they clearly had a back-up plan – shooting Merlyn in the penthouse.
2. It looked to me like Deadshot used something more like a grenade launcher to blow the window, not bullets. They showed him loading it before he took out the window.
3. I was also a little confused about it not being a head shot. I suppose that wouldn’t fit with the plot!
4. The blood transfusion thing did seem to come out of nowhere. Didn’t they use the herbs to treat Deadshot’s previous victims?
He is getting pretty loose with his identity, but I’m expecting the latest reveal will have some big repercussions.
As to the point about the head shot, in real life when you’re being taught how to shoot you’re told to aim for the body’s center of mass (basically the torso) because it’s (1) easier to hit and (2) its where most of the vital organs are. Plus, the head’s kind of a small target to try and hit, especially from a distance and especially at night.
…Then again, this is all fiction and Deadshot had a freakin bionic eye, so yeah, there really isn’t any excuse for him not pinging Merlyn in the head.
I mean he clearly doesn’t really care that much about his identity. He doesn’t even wear a mask when he visits his MOM.
This episode was FANtastic. Johns really played up the humor that Stephen Amell pulls off with a strange dryness that I’ve never seen very often.
The episodes of SMALLVILLE that Geoff Johns wrote were always among the best so I welcome him to stop by Starling City as often as he wants.
